I use a breakaway tripod, the head holds whatever guide you rest into it snugly so all you need to do is adjust the height or the rod rest accordingly.
You can buy the heads separately on their site and I know they did a convertor for other rod rests at one point but I dont see those on the website so if you are intested call the shop to enquire.

I have a similar set up that I could take from my river tripod, and use that type of grippy heads, if the earlier suggestion about aligning the butt ring doesn't work. Thanks for this.
