Has anyone used any of these, apparently they are made for sea and fresh water fishing. Comments appreciated (y) I have a couple used for sea trout & salmon + mullet and mackerel bashing.

I tried a 4000 sized one that my mate had been given by a relative. I understand they are an Australian brand and are quite popular over there but I wasn't too impressed. The reel felt a bit like an Okuma or similar type of brand and the clutch wasn't the smoothest, although line lay was okay.
If it is just going to be used occasionally for light use then it might be fine, although I'm not sure how it will stand up to sea use.

Apparently they have s/steel shafts and brass gearing, same with any reels just service & oil/grease so should be ok.

I forgot to reply yesterday after I had spoken to my mate to ask him if he still had the reel I tried. He said he binned it because the front drag stripped its threads and wouldn’t tighten. Apparently it had a brass nut inside and the main shaft was stainless steel, so the brass nut eventually stripped.

The one I have has a rear drag setup, he must of mullered his imo.

To strip a brass thread on a drag system he's way over tightened it. That's miss use imo nothing to do with the reel.

My buddy isn’t one to abuse his gear. I’ve known him thirty years and can say with a high degree of certainty that if the threads gave up then it was down to poor tolerances on the machining of the thread rather than misuse. The front nut would have been tightened for casting as well as used for adjusting the drag and he’s definitely not heavy handed.

I've seen a few online reports of Jarvis Walker gear in general, and it seems to be pigeon holed in the same league as Fladen, Lineaeffe etc.
Cheap & nasty.

I tried a couple of Jarvis walker fs reels about 10 years ago, they wernt bad reels for the money, they were definitely on the cheaper end of the scale but did their job well enough for me.

Got to agree with @Kine262 on the drag knobs though, I've had drag knobs strip the thread on brand new reels (tightened less than 10 times) and they were over £100 a reel so not in the £20 cheapy bracket, they wernt over tightened either as the replacements didn't strip after that and have been done up tighter.
These things happen sometimes, could be poor manufacturing or poor tolerances, could even be crap materials used or a bad batch.
It certainly didn't put me off the reels it happend to as I still use them.

I have a Jarvis Cocker fixed spool😁 think I paid about 30 odd quid for it.
Been used for 2 years( summer and winter) spinning. As said it is not the best reel I've ever used but it does the job. I only bought it to see me through till I got something better. I used 30lb braid on it, what the cheaper reels don't seem to like is pressure put on the spool/ main shaft when pulling from a snag.
Years ago I had a small Rovex rear drag reel, it took some abuse and I ended up giving it to my brother who used it for a few years after me. But times and brands change.

The Jarvis Cocker reel is still going and one of my nephews uses it now, the reel is in the motor so I'll grab it an take a picture later an stick it on in case anyone is interested.

The reel is sold as Jarvis Walker 6000 Tactical. Pretty small for a 6000 sized reel🤔on closer inspection the back of the reel foot has a gold coloured plate in which it is stamped,
"Designed and engineered in Japan"
Don't think it shows up in the photo but that's what it says🥴

Be handy if you could drill it and put some wires through it.
