Saftey advice please

It can be productive, particularly if you use local lug as bait. I've seen some hefty bass caught there, into double figures but nothing that size for me. Decent sole, thornbacks and the odd conger. Codling and whiting in winter. The biggest problem is that on a big tide it comes up the beach at nearly walking pace so you're continually moving.
There’s some bloke on Facebook fishes it daily, never seems to get much and I would imagine doesn’t work 🙄

Tbh I started with thigh and never could seem to keep the water out so the next was chesties.
I still don’t wade much higher than the top of my thighs but at least I know I won’t get soaked
I bought a pair of thigh waders when I used to go out baot fihing with my mate at Bantham to get out to his boat on the mooring.
Once he sold the boat, and I moved down to the city, I left them with him, and they are probably well perished now.

Nor does bloody Facemuck for me! 🤣🤣🤣

Yep wasn’t saying the mark is shite, just that this guy never gets much despite living there more or less 😂
I don't look at facebook but there are a number of people who fish Burnham beaches regularly, they catch very little but usually because they make no real effort beyond being stoned or pissed. At least they're getting some fresh air! :ROFLMAO:

I would have my suspicions, yes 🙄

Back to BTF original post.

As a beach angler for over 40 years I would say simply be cautious .
Read up as much as you can on beach safety, if you are wanting to fish lures then there is a wealth of information on line and also in the written word .

Water , river, stream, pond or reservoir, estuary, beach or rock marks can all be dangerous places.

With common sense , a bit of gleaned local knowledge of the different conditions wherever you plan to fish ,sensible clothing and using / understanding tide tables as well for the area you plan to fish you will be as well prepared as you can be .

With more experience comes better results hopefully .

I wish BTF all the best .

🤣🤣

As an example of somebody not understanding basics …..

Years ago my brother and his wife were touring Southern Ireland , camping.

One evening they arrived at a farm, asked the farmer for permisdion to camp down by the beach on a grassy area, it was duly given.
They went down and pitched their tent had a meal , spent a pleasant evening and went to bed .
At about 3.00 am they were woken up with the sea swilling around with them inside the tent. They grabbed everything and retired back up the field , using a sign and a fence post to make a washing line.

The next day as they packed up to move on, the farmer came down the field to see them . My brother told him what happened . The farmer pointed to the washing line sign which said in big clear letters ….

“Dont camp below this sign on a spring tide “

My brother said “. Its August “

Thigh waders are for faggots. Mostly used for posing in front of the wardrobe mirror. No real practical use bar a bit of cottaging. Get decent chest waders and belt them, don't rule out using a bank stick. They can be massively help full

The ones i had came from work so they were free, that was my reason for having them.

Sounds simple really but if you need your phone to get you off the beach safely you shouldn't be there in the first place.. Fishing can be so much more productive at night but you need to be aware. An analogue compass can be a life saver
Got lost in some estuary dunes once, a mark we’d fished loads of times.
That night it was very dark and misty and it took us an hour to find the car park 10 minutes walk away 🙄
It wasn’t dangerous, a long way from the high tide mark but did feel pretty stupid!

A phone for emergency help. A few years ago a bloke broke his ankle on Shurton reef, he was on his own at night fishing 2 down and 2 up. Without a phone he would have died.

I didn't say to not take a phone...just don't count on it.. Plenty of idiots wandering around at night thinking they are bulletproof because they have a phone
