Also got the Comp match GT's, Comp Naga's, Xenon powers (3piece, for the arkward spots for casting)AFAW match pro's, tourney matche's, Sonik gravity X5's, Abu Suverans (both the 4/8 and 4/6oz models) and many more rods that I can't think of at the mo (all pairs) Been down the British rod route many times with Century rods (about 10 different models) and Zipplex (about 6 different models, never been impressed with UK rods, especially Zipplex, although Century were ok but nothing special, reason I don't use british rods now is lack of transparency, all the rods are at least 50% Eastern materials (reelseats, guides etc, but what they don't tell you is the spec of Carbon used and where it comes from (which to me would be a huge selling point) feel that they have something to hide. The other side is the foreign companies are more than happy to tell you what grade of materials used and where there sourced (Tronix - Mitsubushi, very reputable company) and given the state of British Manufacturing ( ie armed forces stuff, rail network etc ) it just don't work, think we need to accept the UK is a third world nation !Ah so there is someone on here that has and likes the Blackouts When I had a play with one in the tackle shop I thought it was lovely too
I will never accept that we are a third world nation....Also got the Comp match GT's, Comp Naga's, Xenon powers (3piece, for the arkward spots for casting)AFAW match pro's, tourney matche's, Sonik gravity X5's, Abu Suverans (both the 4/8 and 4/6oz models) and many more rods that I can't think of at the mo (all pairs) Been down the British rod route many times with Century rods (about 10 different models) and Zipplex (about 6 different models, never been impressed with UK rods, especially Zipplex, although Century were ok but nothing special, reason I don't use british rods now is lack of transparency, all the rods are at least 50% Eastern materials (reelseats, guides etc, but what they don't tell you is the spec of Carbon used and where it comes from (which to me would be a huge selling point) feel that they have something to hide. Then we will have to agree to disagree! I could put it a lot stronger than that as frankly I find much of your statement laughable. Add Daiwa and Harrison to the mix and you are a long way off the truth. The fact the world does a vast amount of manufacturing in the East does not mean they are at the spearhead of development, simply that they have the economies of scale and much lower operating costs. I understand the processes and the margins involved as I've been involved in developing freshwater fishing tackle since 1991and have seen the many changes unfold. Saltwater fishing is my 'bus man's holiday' and I can say hand on heart that I have absolutely zero brand affiliation. There are plenty of smoke and mirrors type tactics involved in product placement these days so can you for the sake of clarity state whether or not you are, as has been suggested above, a 'sponsored' angler, 'brand ambassador' or 'influencer' by any chance ?Also got the Comp match GT's, Comp Naga's, Xenon powers (3piece, for the arkward spots for casting)AFAW match pro's, tourney matche's, Sonik gravity X5's, Abu Suverans (both the 4/8 and 4/6oz models) and many more rods that I can't think of at the mo (all pairs) Been down the British rod route many times with Century rods (about 10 different models) and Zipplex (about 6 different models, never been impressed with UK rods, especially Zipplex, although Century were ok but nothing special, reason I don't use british rods now is lack of transparency, all the rods are at least 50% Eastern materials (reelseats, guides etc, but what they don't tell you is the spec of Carbon used and where it comes from (which to me would be a huge selling point) feel that they have something to hide. Thanks @chesilpete that's really useful information, just the kind of thing I'm looking for to help me make an informed decision before I part with my hard(ish) earned cash I wasn't trying to suggest that you are writing off all non UK brands, merely that I'm staying open to all options until I've made a final decision. The 14ft version is very very good.... powerful and very predictable. I had a go before they went on general sale from CKB on here.
The tip is great in tide run and does not pull the lead out.
Hope you get to try one.
I am not writing off all other brands, I actually fish with Italian rods mainly but I have a lot of Century rods and use them all on occassion.
Honestly, it's such a personal choice. Thanks @chesilpete that's really useful information, just the kind of thing I'm looking for to help me make an informed decision before I part with my hard(ish) earned cash I wasn't trying to suggest that you are writing off all non UK brands, merely that I'm staying open to all options until I've made a final decision.
Correct. Hopefully it's about unbiased advice and personal as opposed to vested opinionsLet's keep this on topic.
It's not a thread about British Vs Chinese manufacturers

Nice bit of DIY innovationJust to update big beach returned to pal , so necessity been mother of invention decided to create funkenstein for the cliffs and braid using both alvey and fixed spool using my old tip tornado Grand Prix and section of boat rod to include reel seat. Tools Stanley knife, tape measure, bagging tape and electrical , and nail varnish, existing rings initially used
Boat rod section including reel seat wammed upt rear of gp x6” or so where it will remain giving distance of 9” from base butt cap to centre of reel seat and 19” to centre original seat.
Removed guides from butt section and placed on tip section giving 190cm ish from original seat and 230 ish from bottom seat, removed other rings and jiggled now five guides plus tip.
Taped poledark/den rip, casting trigger very kindly donated by Mike hemming ( thanks again Mike) above bottom reel seat for Alvey and franky was born.
Lazy low kind of fishing pendulum with 7 ounce lead and braid no ring/ guide wraps in all combinations but not used in anger yet and distance ok for da cliff, Alvey pain in the butt at times, tee hee
Thanks, am sure it will do for winching upt cliffs and is expendable at worstNice bit of DIY innovation
Also later if accessorizing would cut a dash with da rubber bullseye waders and maybe sou wester.Been having some fun with colour scheme for potential custome build Fireblade GT. Not going to be everyone's cup of tea but I'm really liking this colour combination.
Those rubber waders were rather fetchingAlso later if accessorising would cut a dash with da rubber bullseye waders and maybe sou wester.
Yes very much so, and been extra high the chaffing could be exquisite. Those rubber waders were rather fetching
That's the beauty of a custom build - apart from improvements to hardware you can get what YOU like. Great rod builders like Rossco, Stan Parkes etc have both a catalogue of previous builds and an eye for what works. The choices are yours to enjoyBeen having some fun with colour scheme for potential custome build Fireblade GT. Not going to be everyone's cup of tea but I'm really liking this colour combination.
I think/hope that's an entirely different forum you're thinking about....Yes very much so, and been extra high the chaffing could be exquisite.
Post 150, soo worth it, and would match many rod colour schemes methinksI think/hope that's an entirely different forum you're thinking about....
