Fixed spool on a multiplier rod

Ah that's where all this confusion has come from.. Angrybear even posted pic of his rod with the line coming off at different sides (C&D) of the circumference.. and is why there was confusion over how this would affect the cast..

As it is now clear is just the Bottom / Back / B of the spool and knot can be any where along circumference.. we are all on same page now

I always put knot at back (for years) to avoid the line coming off pulling over the knot and 'catching' if knot was in front (A) of the spool..

I was thinking you were advocating positioning knot at particular spot on circumference.. hence all the confusion...

We on same page now... TG... I was going crazy.. as I am sure you were .... hahahaha
That's how I understood his post as well, to me top is above & bottom is below, not front to back.
But I've never used FS reels on the beach, I only ever used multi's for casting with shock leaders & they're simple, you put the knot to the side your thumb points at, well out of the way.

Sheesh you don`t half complicate things. For TOP also read FRONT. For BOTTOM also read BACK. Why not just set the reel as far down the rod as you can from the butt guide, take it on a field and cast.

Because I don't use the things, I just couldn't understand why he appeared to be saying the knot should be at the bottom,
Now I know he meant at the back of the spool, it makes complete sense.

So where exactly have we decided the knot should be ?

I really don’t know why people are finding this so confusing. Surely everyone puts the knot at the bottom on FS & the knot to either side on a multi?
And the knot just stays at the bottom of the spool as if by magic throughout the whole session 😳

Is that not how magic works?
You obviously move it down on the wind in, just before a cast etc. If the knot is at the top the leader can get caught & crack off, or damage the guide.
I thought it was common practice if using FS?

Never had any bother with braid to braid knot and never even consider knot position when casting, unlike mono on multi been hard on thum. Don’t use mono on fs for shore fishing though.🤷🏽‍♂️

I will pass on that I would rather land the fish and get the next cast out in the water as opposed to buggering about, match anglers must love you

Actually it takes a few seconds, you slack the drag as the leader knot arrives, put a finger onto the bail arm to keep.it in the right position and turn the handle, by doing that the bail arm travels to the bottom of the spool, tighten drag and it's done takes no time once you have the knack.

It takes a second to do if that. Obviously when you have a fish on you just wind it in, and adjust it before casting. Common sense really.
I don’t do matches btw, if i did, i’d still do it. A second or 2 extra is alot less than a crack off time wise.
