Looking at thermal wellies for cold winter wear, Baffin trapper were great but now very expensive in UK, anyone tried the Fortis elements or Grubbs snowline?

I've bought the Grubs Snowline 8.5 this winter. Not had them long so can't vouch for their durability but as for being comfortable and keeping my toes warm in minus conditions I've been really impressed so far. They're definitely the warmest and most comfy wellies I've owned 👍

Forget the wellies and go for a pair of high leg keepers boots.. or chainsaw boots…

Do they fit true to size ? I definitely want wellies as I'm often in water returning fish.

When I was looking into buying them I was told they're true to size. I bought size 9 (my normal size) and they fit great 👍

It sounds a bit daft but although I’m not keen on cold feet, I HATE having hot feet, so thermal lining etc is too OTT for me.

My old snowbee neoprene and formerly spiked wellies are about as warm as I can stand.

Which I appreciate helps you not at all 😬

That will be the ones with the disappearing studs here today gone tomorrow ;)
I get about three years out of them, easy, (with studs). After that they’re just wellies but for safety on rocks I think three years isn’t bad.

But then I don’t wear them absolutely everywhere, only where I need them.

The amount of times I am out over the winter they only last a season, I tend to use the Vass ones most of the time and keep the Snowbees for when it is bitter, they need to up their game at a £100 a time it is nothing short of disgraceful when other manufacturers can use tungsten studs

I do agree the price now is crazy. My most recent pair were £85 a few years back but I see some for £130-40 now 😳

But then I’m not out twice a week or whatever these days, so they last me pretty well.

Had heard the Vass studs tend to come out? But no personal experience of them I admit

Having had a couple of pairs of their wellies and chest waders over the last 6/8 years I found some of the studs seemed to sink into the rubber sole over a long period but by that time they were probably on borrowed time anyway and ripe for replacing

I've had bass chest waders and now have diawa hi bred ones which I've only worn once as I'm not a fan of waders, don't know why I bought them really. I've had Simms and reddington stocking foot ones in the past with felt sole wading boots for fly fishing and find this style of waders far more comfortable but not sure how good they would be in salt water.

Baffin titans for ultimate warmth if you are not walking far.
Grubbs snowline 12.5 with rock grip studs for the cold and slippery.
Woodland neoprene wellies for everything else.
All owned and used for a minimum of 6 years.

Cheers for the help, nines in wide fit are normally ok for me but standard fit too tight, ordered size ten snowline and they are perfect with a thick pair of merino winter socks.

No worries, hope you like them as much as I do 👍

Years back I had a pair of Snowbee thermal boots great in winter but in summer they were about 4 sizes too big with the liners removed.
Par-Boiled your feet with them left in.

I hate hot feet even in winter. I know that’s just me but I’d rather lose feeling in them than have them boiling hot 🤣
