Tried a bit of "light" bait & lure fishing with borrowed rod last year on the Murray River and then a stocked reservoir (Tanunda, Barossa Valley as "base camp"). Resident daughter and I really didn't know what we were doing, but it was an "adventure" and we caught a carp in, like, 2 minutes on the river (with sweet corn), but the perch we were hoping for, switching to lures, never took the hook at either location.
Thinking to go back next year &, for next time, I've been looking-up beach-fishing stuff/vids for near-Adelaide coast line. As a result, Oz fishing YouTube vids introduced me to "Alvey" reels !! Seems to me they are like really-big fly-fishing reels, but deployed (down-under) much like a bait-caster.
Anyone here used or using (in the UK) an "Alvey"-type reel? Any thoughts ?
[ Unashamed product plug: daughter is Brand Ambassador for Soul Growers wines, Tanunda, SA - they don't have a big presence in the UK, but if you're down-under and are perusing the wine shelves or visiting Barossa Valley wineries you really do need to check them out. One of their wines got a "99" rating last year. (No flaky stick of chocolate being involved - LOL). They are that good !! ]
