Advice Best All Year Wellies Options?

Can't do wellies any more unfortunately. Since I had my Hip replaced, I can't reach down to my foot with both hands to do shoelaces.

Clean forgot about that when I spotted a quality pair of Dunlop Actifort wellies on special offer. Got them home and can't get both hands down there to pull them on. Went a size bigger too, but no good. Lost the receipt so couldn't return them.
Ah that must be annoying for you Trampster. What do you normally use if you're not using wellies?

Thanks Chesilpete that makes sense and is normally the case that you get what you pay for 👍
Very true however I think it depends what you want them for. The very basic ones won’t have much in the way of padding though you could buy insoles.

If you’re walking miles or fishing for 12 hours I guess you want something a bit better in quality but a few hours on a beach and a short walk, it’s probably neither here nor there imo

Just a pair of slip-on shoes or trainers. Just gotta try to avoid sliding in the drink on shingle. Always take a bucket and a bit of rope fishing (rinsing off hands etc) but I've had a few near calls at the edge of the water! Due to mobility issues, only pier fish now.

Aldi have had some good looking Neoprene fishing wellies in a few times, but the last lot of reports I read, folk were saying they soon split around the ankle, so best avoided.

Why not?
I’ve had mine done and I can, it was leading up to the op that I couldn’t!

No idea why - the new Hip is great for being able to walk better, but just doesn't seem to have the full range of movement that my natural one did. Not complaining, no more Hip pain. I was 37 when it was diagnosed, and had to wait 13 years for them to replace it. They kept saying I was too young. They did one of those 'Birmingham' replacements, just the ball & socket, so I could still have a full one with the spike down the Femur in future if needed. It's lasted 17 years and been fine though.

I never wear wellies for fishing., normally boots, with or without light waterproofs taped at the ankles or waders. Wellies are too easy to lose in the mud. Studded boots for rock marks

Tbh I don’t really wear them, in fact don’t own a pair currently unless you count the studded Rockhoppers whose studs have worn out, or the other pair whose studs are still okay.

They don’t come off easily but if it’s mud, I’ll usually wear waders.

For the occasional shingle mark I normally wear the Rockhoppers sans studs

I’m useless with wellies and hate walking in them but I’ve brought a pair of Grubbs ptarmigan lace ups and I must admit I wear the bloody things all the time really comfy can walk for miles in em and if you hit them a size up are a good wading boot with stocking foots. Their calf length ones are also worth a look at.

It’s what people prefer obviously but for me lace ups are a faff for fishing.

Currently without walking boots as I struggled to find a pair that would last very long for fishing.
Then again I’m not exactly known for cleaning and oiling/waterproofing boots lol

No need to oil or owt wash em off they are rubber and with vibrant soles. Double up as dog walking wet weather boots. You can chase sheep n goats in em faster and tie them to your boots.👍 not had a problem with them and bloody comfy unlike wellies. It the weathers warm use with a pair of wet suit socks and wade in them they dry out fast enough and don’t smell like over used goat.

And you chase sheep and goats then tie them to you boots, please explain why you do this as we are all innocent of such behaviour

It’s a me fish weekend experience that he offered to those who want to be more at one with nature. The problem is his idea of one with nature and those going on the course are somewhat different. Not so much waking to the sound of goats in the morning but waking up in a goat. 🐐
