Good morning all
Started to make my own rigs this year and I keep them in rig wallets rather than the rig winders. Only issue I have is sometimes when I take then out, they are tangled. When putting them in I wrap them round my fingers to make a loop but when I take them out, there never the same. Is there a simple fix to this that I'm missing or doing wrong.

Also, whats the best or anyone have any recommendations for a good rig wallet? Ive jusy got a few small ones from amazon.
Thanks
Robbie

I don't get a lot of trouble with Rigs tangling, though some I've bought have had those 'twist ties' wrapped around them to help keep them tidy. You could try some of them.
I've got a cheap rig wallet, but it's a bit of a faff. I use 10cm square self-seal bags, 1 rig in each, and I carry them in a 0.7L "really useful" box:
The boxes aren't expensive, seal well, and are handy for lures and all sorts of things.

Tronixpro do a pack of rig labels if you want to go the whole hog and mark what rigs are in the bags or rig wallet:

My solution is to untangle them. I keep each rig in an individual baggie but yes, doesn’t matter how careful you are, they’ll still tangle.

USUALLY it’s not so bad that a few seconds fiddling won’t sort them, but occasionally I do wonder what the hell they’ve been doing in there 😳

I’m not usually too bad at sorting tangles though. The trick is not to force or yank anything so it knots but gently tease/pluck at the loose ends or where it appears to be worst until you can see what’s caused it. Usually it’s one bit of line making a loose knot etc and undoing that will clear the tangle.

If you really really don’t want tangles then winders are the only other solution, but I’m not a fan either.

As for wallets, AFAW did a good one but don’t know if they still make it.

Winders and wallets are OK if you're carrying a box or rucksack etc but a bit bulky for my preference for mobile fishing. I reuse the bigger Mustad hook packets which means I can securely carry 10 rigs easily in a small jacket pocket. Spiral the rig carefully around 3 fingers and secure with a fold or two of masking tape.

I always take a couple of rig winders with me so that I can get off to a quick start without tangles but, after that, I carry rigs in wallets as I have enough time to sort out any tangles. And it's something to do between casts.

I loosely wrap the rig around my hand & use a bit of garden wire or similar as a wrap to secure the ends.

Tip; secure the heavy items like impact shields, swivels & lead clips close together,
to unravel, take off the wire hold the same end as you did to wrap it, & let the rest drop, they usually just unravel.

As for rig wallets, I prefer the ones with a proper sliding zip lock to open, rather than those that just press together,
In A4 size that open as 2 sides of 5 double bags, for 20 rigs, handy if they have pockets for spare hooks etc.

Mustad used to do one, but I can't see that size now, Penn do a nice one but it's £40,
the Tronix pro double looks good, but avoid the Tronix pro match organiser, its a very poor design.

For me it’s never really a big deal. As long as they’re in something - right wallet, baggie, etc, and you’ve coiled them before going in, they’re not going to come out in too terrible a state.

I’ll have a few anyway so if one looks particularly messy, I’ll pick another and sort it while fishing.

The actual time taken to square a rig away is probably never much more than a minute, if that.
It’s just something I do as part of setting up and pay it no mind.

But if being very organised with minimal tangles is important to you, then use winders.

I should add my rigs are always as simple as possible and with relatively heavy line in most cases, ie 30-40lb traces.
They don’t have six different types of springs, gadgets, gizmos and more sequins than a drag queen’s dress, so untwizzling them is pretty straightforward.

Thanks very much guys, once again you've all proved how great this site is, thank you for the help and information again. Decided to take the fresh rigs I'd made out and coil them much neater, this may seem sad but I had some rigs soaking in fresh water after using them 😂 there all perfect and coiled nicely too

I find I get less tangled using rig winders , when I use rig wallets I get loads of tangles. Each to their own tho, whatever works for you,use it

I brought a packet of multi coloured plastic paperclips from ebay. Wrap a large loop and secure with a clip.

Dont wind rigs around your hand, your putting a twist into the trace with every coil. Instead try to feed the trace body into the wallet compartment,
bottom or weight clip end first, the trace will make a figure of eight shape, once you get to the snood feed those in but keep the hooks out and hang/secure them on the zip. That way the hooks never tangle and you can remove the trace as God intended;)

Im away fishing tomorrow so i will take a few photos because it can be hard to explain the above
Rigs winders are the same, spin or turn the rig winder to feed the trace on, dont wrap the trace around the winder.

And any of you lot say different? your telling fibs lol.o_O

Compartments are a bit cloudy, but if ye squint? You can see what I mean

Fed...:giggle:

I went half and half in the end, well a full box of winders and a couple of wallets, so many tangles 😂 when you have a 13yr old using your rigs too, it gets harder, he thinks they untangle themselves 😂
