Ultimate fixed spool reel

The Stellas and Saltigas are just over Ā£1k so would you say Ā£500 is mid priced?

P.S. I made the mistake of holding a Saltiga and since then everything else seems lame šŸ˜’
No I'd say those two reels are millionaire play things.

If you look at the hundreds of 40 to Ā£100 reels 160 to Ā£260 is mid range

So earlier this week I bought a pair of Penn Tidal XT and they seem pretty good for the money although tolerances are a tad slack. I'm really curious about some of the Shimanos, like the Bullseye and Power Aeros, I would hope the higher price would equal tighter tolerances. The Saltiga for example is TIGHT šŸ«¶

Looks like they have corrected the mistake now. Its back up to 1100
Angling direct have messed up a few times.
If in store always check the Web price. When the warehouse is out of stock they lower the Web price to get you in the site.

I got Ā£40 off a set of bite alarms once because of it. Then nearly Ā£200 off a set of carp rods.

Looks like they're out of stock of the 14000 size which was 50% off (plus extra 10% with code). They still have some smaller sizes in stock but they're around Ā£900 lol
So own up now, which one of you millionaires bought the last one at Ā£517? šŸ¤£

Are some about Norwich had one but very expensive.
We had one in our small town about 2 years ago but they had to close due to extortionate rent prices and not enough trade. I think alot are online now but not the same as going into the shop with your paper round money surrounded by all the multi coloured jars of sweets and delicious sweet smells to choose from

I used to like either the Strawberry flavour Bon Bons or the different flavour sherbet powders šŸ˜ƒ
You dont see the old style sweet shops around anymore šŸ˜„
We have a couple in town, you just gotta know where to look.

I never had a sweet tooth. When I was at school, we used to head off to the local shop for a packet of 10 Players No. 6, not sweets.

Your paper round must of paid better than mine, we had to buy our cigs as singles šŸ¤£
I used to live near 25 miles from where I went to school, so used to use my bus fare money for cigs and hitch hike home! It was often quicker than the bus too!

I bought a Shimano Baitrunner OC 8000, probably 15 years ago, for inshore boat fishing around the Scottish coast. That reel has proven indestructible and still looks almost new. Minimal maintenance during that time, basically a wash occasionally and oil on the bail arm roller.....maybe I put a few drips of oil through the body lubrication port a few years ago?

When I moved to France I needed to upgrade my fishing tackle for the river Lot. I now have two of the OC 8000, 2x OC6000, 2x OC4000. I use them with braid lines which cast extremely well off the fairly short stroke spools.

Maybe mono lines would limit casting distance on these spools, but I find with braid the OC spools work very well.

The drag on the OC spools is exceptionally good as standard, a couple of years ago I hooked a big fish on the river Lot that made fast runs up the river, across the river and then way, way down the river. That drag was almost constantly working almost full on in heatwave conditions but it was always smooth. The hooked dropped out eventually, so I have no idea what size the fish was. There are outsize carp and silure here! šŸ³

If max distance with mono lines is required the various Shimano Ultegra with their longer stroke spools are better. I use the Ultegra reels at times but find the OC Baitrunners so much more versatile.

A couple of years ago I bought a Mitchell Freerunner (?) as it was so cheap in an AD sale. Big mistake....the bail arm mechanism broke!
On inspection the failed part was badly designed and made of brittle alloy. The equivalent part and mechanism of even a low price Shimano is made properly!
