He is however, 100% correct, no such thing as a 20/30 or 12/20 or 30/50 can exist. Line classes all started based on east coast USA standards back in the 20`s - 30``s (Florida). As a reasonable guide it was taken that the rod would bend to 90 degrees, tip to butt at around 2/3rds of the stated line class. As a simple example a 30lb rod would bend to 90 degrees as 2/3rds of 30, i.e. 20lb. Given the modern shit that would suggest that a 30/50 would bend to 90 degress at 20lb and also at 33lb, that`s a good trick. These were trolling rods. Then came the stand up rods or short strokers, they were a tad lighter and bent to 90 degrees around 1/2 of the line class so a 30 bent at roughly 15lb. Shaky in their wisdom even came up with a 30 - 80lb. Load of toss.
