Targets

it's been a long year without any traveling when things are opening up got a lot of catching up to do fingers crossed things go to plan had nothing to do but plan trips be visiting a few old haunts plus a few new ones only targeting the big stuff this year tope. skate might do a bit of flattie bashing the early tope love them ?
GreAt stuff on my to do list is the mighty tope ???

Don’t know really. It’ll be pretty dead here until April when the SE move in, then hounds towards the end of May.
Must attempt to get out for a huss very soon, just for something to do.
My winter usually involves trips up channel but had a lot on before Christmas and obviously lockdown put an end to that idea.
I’ll fish local but driving 20-30 miles or more up to the BC would be taking the pee just a tad.
Maybe try Chesil for plaice/rays when it’s allowed but my experience there (such as it is), is you get a window up to April for the early plaice, then the spiders move in and it’s not worth the bother as the worm won’t stay on the hook for two minutes.
I know people do have good plaice sessions down there but I can never seem to get away from the spiders ??‍♂️
I’ll give you a nudge nearer the time ref plaice bey ?

Bass are relatively easy! Plaice I struggle with...
It took me a good while to catch my first bass.
You need to learn the location first.
Most marks i fish have a "hot" period (may be just that area and location) and nothing outside of that.

Sea fishing usually quiet here til mid April when I will be boat fishing for dabs and rays , poss smoothies, in Carmarthen Bay. Also bit of trout fishing in the upper reaches of the Taf ( Carms) and Eastern Cleddau. Finally will do a bit of roach bashing in some local ponds on calm and warmer days.

I guess it all depends on having access to the right venue. If the fish aren't in front of you then they are difficult to catch.
Well yes. Okay lol, what I meant was they’re relatively easy for me living here, plaice we don’t get much of and I never do too well at Chesil on them.

So wots everyone’s plan once they relax lockdown a bit fishing wise I’ll hopefully be arfter se rays and early plaice can’t wait to get out there again wot you lads gonna be after ???
One that is big enough to eat. Could be bream & mackerel season by the time we can get out fishing.

I'm hoping that I'll actually take possession of my house on the IOW in the next two weeks. Said that many times since early January but things are looking hopeful at last.
Targets for the coming year:
Sole from a few likely spots.
Bream on light gear.
Red bream, never caught one but are supposed to be delicious and I know a mark that has a few so I'm told.
Pollock on my new distance float set up, over a reef at low water. I hope this proves to be as effective as I think it should be.
Turbot from the shore.
Mackerel caught early in the morning out of sight and crush of the holiday anglers.
Squid from the pier and beach.
Simple prawn traps dotted around for live bait and lunch.
Shrimping on some of the flat sandy beaches.
Float fishing over rocky ground for bass, I may even eat one if I can get it home and cooked in a few hours, see prawn traps above.
I've been offered regular boat fishing for fuel share cost, hopefully that will work out.
I'm seriously thinking of a species hunt as well so I may have to invest in LRF kit.
As I'll be able to fish very close by, my sessions are going to be shorter but more frequent than I've been doing for the last 30 years. I'm looking forward to quick daily/nightly sessions as opposed to monthly overnighters 100 miles from home.
Lots more to do with the new house; workshop, brewery, man cave, fishing room, garden room to build. Big pond to dig for my fish.
Busy times ahead, can't wait.
