I think it can vary from day to day, tide to tide on feeding depth and bait. I would say the key to catching is if youāre not getting bites, try something different. It doesnāt always work but often will.Fascinating! So much knowledge and experience out there, knowing how a fish behaves helps a lot.
It reminds me of a spot my dad and I would fish with 2 hook flappers. We were interested in getting seabream but we'd also get wrasse. One time the sea was so calm...decided to spearfish while my dad fished. Got to see the fish, how they behaved and where they were. Turns out wrasse were nearly always at the bottom, while seabream were 1-2m from the surface. We switched to using floats and it was seabream all day long
P.S. this may be common knowledge BUT we didn't know
...and/or patience...the key to catching is if youāre not getting bites, try something different...
I know I joke about bait over lures but lures are very effective if people know their stuff.I think it can vary from day to day, tide to tide on feeding depth and bait. I would say the key to catching is if youāre not getting bites, try something different. It doesnāt always work but often will.
Iād always choose bait over lure, as I think it gives a much greater range of fish to target, as well as a chance of bigger fish, but I still get great satisfaction from every lure caught fish.I know I joke about bait over lures but lures are very effective if people know their stuff.
Iād imagine also quite a bit is when and where as you say, rather than any one lure being the killer article
Yes, I get that although I just canāt get past bait because if Iāve put my bait where I know bass are - and catch - thatās satisfying enough.Iād always choose bait over lure, as I think it gives a much greater range of fish to target, as well as a chance of bigger fish, but I still get great satisfaction from every lure caught fish.
I am 100% different than you.Yes, I get that although I just canāt get past bait because if Iāve put my bait where I know bass are - and catch - thatās satisfying enough.
But thatās just me. And personally I just hate spinning if I can avoid it.
But not criticising lure fishing, it can work very well, itās just not for me.
Do they make a surface peeler?
Nah it just bores me. If I donāt get a take in 10 minutes Iāve had enoughI am 100% different than you.
I like to lure fish/spin/feathers love to keep moving.
But i can and do bait fish
And i don't think they do a surface peeler.
Yes completely opposite as i say, if bait fishing and i see nothing after 15mins i am wondering all sorts, do i reel in to see, has anything took bait, or is there nothing here!Nah it just bores me. If I donāt get a take in 10 minutes Iāve had enough
Yep itās just me lolYes completely opposite as i say, if bait fishing and i see nothing after 15mins i am wondering all sorts, do i reel in to see, has anything took bait, or is there nothing here!
I canāt be bothered with that.. I am supposed to be relaxing.. not fucking around checking bait and recasting..Should be changing bait every 15-20 minutes or so anyway
HAHAHA patience!...if bait fishing and i see nothing after 15mins i am wondering all sorts, do i reel in to see, has anything took bait, or is there nothing here!
Not necessarily, it depends on the situation and bait used, for example - went fishing last week for bass using frozen squid. There was nothing around to nibble away the bait so would re-bait every 30-40mins, and that landed a 48cm, a 62cm, and right at the end a tiny 20cm (despite using 4/0 circles)Should be changing bait every 15-20 minutes or so anyway
I totally agree - what ever floats your boat BUT baiting, casting, retrieving on 2 rods every 15mins...I can do it (and have done) but I don't enjoy itI canāt be bothered with that.. I am supposed to be relaxing.. not fucking around checking bait and recasting..
Well yea, 20 is a general rule of thumb for smaller baits but youāre quite right, big squid or fish you can go up to double that.HAHAHA patience!

Which makes me thing: will I enjoy lure fishing? All I know is this spot I want to try it's either surface lure OR spearfishing.
100% - didn't mean to mansplain youWell yea, 20 is a general rule of thumb for smaller baits but youāre quite right, big squid or fish you can go up to double that.
