I can remember them sometimes wrongly being referred to as Salmon bass though in the 70s

Yeah y do people say sea bass

To differentiate between the freshwater ones they get in the states and a few bodies of water in Spain I think.

They were bass forever before some TV chef decided that they needed promotion from pot bait to high end table fare.
They then became sea bass but remained a tasteless, but expensive, waste of plate space.
