Hey my first post on this forum. I’m looking to fish Sunday evening after work with a mate (based in Hampshire), being mostly a course fisherman I’ve never done any sea fishing during the winter, I’ve mostly just fished for hounds and bass at hill head, gilkicker and Browndown as well as a couple trips to chesil/Selsey/devon.

I’m not asking for your secret spots or anything, but it would be nice to be pointed in the right direction. I take it I can just use the same baits and rigs as usual, any advice at all is appreciated cheers👍.

Also is it the wrong time of year for rays?

Welcome to the forum 😁

Welcome to the Madhouse matey! 👍👍

Hampshire is way East of me so can't offer any advice I'm afraid.

You have a smallish tide and a 10pm low water.
Your choices are a bit limited.
You need a place that fishes over low and you have a bit of water.
My choices would be Gilkicker point, Clarence beach Portsmouth or East beach Selsey near the point.
Rays at Gilkicker and East Beach, odds n sods at Clarence.
Tricky tides.....

It's a welcome from me (y)

Milford shingle bank on the smaller tides could be OK, fish an hour before high and down to low especiallyif the hours coincide with darkness. As already mentioned, Eastney and Selsey or Hayling island as that fishes OK on smaller tides. As for Rays, there's been a few coming from southbourne on the evening tides according to some reports. Check out Christchurch angling centre on YouTube as he often does a southbourne video.

Welcome to the forum, I would try by the round tower at the entrance to Portsmouth harbour ,or along Southsea seafront, the rays are still being caught my side of the Solent.

Yeah I like gilkicker, caught mostly bream there earlier in the year found the tide to absolutely rip at low though.

I definitely been wanting to try Milford shingle for a while now cheers

Going to be hitting the beach this Sunday evening, tides gonna be a decent bit bigger. I take it I should avoid gilkicker due to the pull and weed? However my session will likely end at 10.

If its any good to you, I fished Eastney last night. It was a whiting and dog fest. Baits uses were, black lug, razors, squid and mackerel, on there own and in cocktails and the whiting mainly devoured it all. Went through 30 blacks, 10 razors, pack of squid and a whole mackerel. I'm guessing that's pretty much going to be the same at most venues. Oh and virtually no weed. Think I had 2 casts which came back with weed on and that was at the start of the ebb.
