Well still try the hot soapy water and use the green side of a kitchen pan cleaner sponge

Lol my rod stands erect outside the back door, ready for action 24 7 all year round,bit of lube needed every so often but washes it off perfect! Hot soapy water or a vinegar water mix should clean it?
