Favourite Sea Fishing Rod?

Maybe not as fashionable as some, but I really like the new Daiwa Sandstorms. Certainly a lot cheaper than Century or Zipplex at around the £150 mark, depending on what version you go for, but quite forgiving as well as having the ability to cast a good distance.

Wasn't sure about the colour mix at first (Bright yellow lower butt with the rest carbon black) but it has grown on me.

My best rod I’ve had must be my verrcelli tikataka hybrid tip lovely rod for the clean beaches round here caught some nice fish on it aswell 4 oz whould fly out but my daughter broke it last year wound the link they the eye and I lost the entire tip ???? have a pair of gravity ht, s at the moment nice rods if a bit long at 15 ft but exciting news my mate has a brand new pAir of gbfs mk 2 turning up next week so I’ll be buying 2 of his 3 gbfs mk 1 off him ? I’ll then have all bases covered along with my cobra light which is ok but it ain’t no Tika that’s for sure ?

Bit sad really but my go to rod is a 13ft 6 Abu Xcellence. Never heard of it before or since.
When I bought it I felt the shop owner was trying to palm off unwanted stock on me (and he may have been, knowing him).
It seemed to long, too beefy, first couple of trips couldn’t get on with it.
But I persisted and really grew to love it. For such a powerful rod the tip is really good, shows up a whiting or dab bite better than many of my ‘lighter’ rods.
And strong, my god, it could pull the plug out then retrieve the stranded whale on the next cast.
Once swung in an 8lb 13 huss on it (don’t try this at home, not advisable!) and it’s lifted in countless 5/6lb fish no sweat.
Yet it locks up nicely, nice tip, loads of power but doesn’t feel like a scaffold pole, really comes to life with a decent fish on.
It does need a new bottom ring now and I need to get that and a couple of others rewhipped at some point.
I still reach for it most trips though and often have to force myself to put it back and give one of the (many) other beachcasters a run out.
Then stand there fishing and thinking ‘I wish I’d brought the Abu’ :(

That’s it on the left. Couldn’t find any sort of action shot unfortunately ??‍♂️

One that casts and catches fish

My favourite go to rods for years have been a pair of Greys Syntra 13' 6"ers &/or a pair of 16' Greys Triplex's.
Though i bought a pair of the new 14' 2" Sandstorms last Summer & like @Kine262 have been really impressed with them & really enjoyed fishing with them so these could well turn out to be my go to rods.
Rick?

I had always been used to a 12ft beachcaster but after a chat with John Holden he convinced me to go for the 14’2” Sandstorms (he said that if I thought they were too long then I could always hacksaw a bit off! ? ) and it turned out to be great advice. I am really pleased with mine and the extra length make casting so much smoother.

my best rod ive had for years .its a ugly stick 15ld class the one with the heavy butt.i had it rebuilt years ago and had it fitted with fugi eyes. i now have 3 of these. i rember when they first came out they were advertised by jeff capes (worlds strongest man ) folding it around his body and touching the tip to the butt. caught plaice to cod.ray and conger on it.

There's one on ebay but it's 4.2m.
Thanks - I'll go take a look.

EDIT: Nice rod and would be good as a 2nd rod to match my 4.5m, but at £95 it's a bit expensive compared to the £57 I paid for mine. And it's an auction, so that's only a start price!

My go to rod for clean beaches is my Century MT4000.
50 of them were made for Mick's Tackle in Hythe and I picked one up second hand.

Built by Nick Buss but I don't know what the blank is, I'm assuming it was a standard Century blank rather than a new design.
It would be nice to know.

Casts so nicely OTG.

Ebay makes me chuckle some times! I was doing a bit of mooching around yesterday (purely out of boredom) to see what fishing items were for sale locally. There is a dubious character with 41 new rods for sale, yet he's a private seller not business, so no address or contact details. Most of the rods appear to be at the cheaper end of the market, in quality if not in price. And his feedback is -1! Yep - minus 1. Definitely one to avoid methinks!
