Had a 41lbs common in the autumn pb common, plus a 31 same session of 2 nights , fishing a lake I have been a member of since 5, this is a common that hasn't been recognised, definitely not at that weight anyway , lots of the fish in here don't come out for years ,there is kois and big commons I see most trips because of their colour or size in the clear water, there is out of bounds areas where you can climb and see clearly....not a massive lake either 15 acres, but hide they do , and never had one of the kois or commons in 28 years or heard of anyone catching one , but still see the same ones that I saw as a kid. Was a lovely misty morning 🌄 .
What a fight over 20 mins which is a real long time when in reality most are 5 mins or less even on larger fish .... which iv only ever had 1 similar before in France. It was not happy being hooked , thought would lose it at various times during the fight
.
To get my pb common from here meant a lot , there is day ticket lakes you can go and get 40s quite often now but purposely don't go them places so was happy with that 😊
Since then iv only been a couple times to other venues ,as still over the moon with it , been a long time goal despite getting close to the 40 mark lots of times , know its just a number but was annoying me and wanted one over it from a proper place . Made my fishing year

Fantastic looking fish, well done (y)

I suppose someone has to. :ROFLMAO:

Well the boy and I thought we would do the next few months on the river as the local lakes all have lids on them. We set up on a nice bend and after dark we started getting strange liners which turned out to be drifting ice! So we reeled in, took a wander and found a stretch that was completely clear of ice so moved in the dark and stuck them out. Woke up this morning to find the whole stretch frozen…

… except the swim we had moved from! 😡

The boy and I haven’t had the best of luck on the carp fishing front this new year, the one session that I’ve managed to join him on, we got frozen in and the day sessions he’d been saw only one hook pull and no other action. So neither the boy or I had managed to christen our new rods (his rods being fox warriors and mine fox horizon X3S)

Today I was determined to break the blank, so the boy and I went to the local pond to see if we could change our luck.

Well the boy soon had his new rods, reels, alarms, bobbins, stainless etc all arranged in the appropriate array and he was sat back awaiting action.

His bait choice was tutti fruitti readymades that I’d brought, I chose to go down the natural route, and brought a few pints of maggots.

With the boy set up, I rigged up my new rods, and lined the first rod up for its first chuck, only it didn’t go so well…
IMG_2395.jpegA loud crack signalled the death of my new rod! When I wanted to “break the blank” this is NOT what I meant!

I got the other two from the hold-all and gingerly cast them out, before getting on the phone to call the tackle dealer (Poingdestres) who immediately arranged a free replacement, no questions asked - top shop!
IMG_2403.jpegI was explaining to the boy that bad luck generally comes in threes, 1, ordering 3 rods in the wrong test curve, 2, getting frozen in on the last night session (after moving from the only unfrozen section!) and now 3, snapping a rod! Hopefully that was my bad luck done with, and so it proved, as a bite alarm split the air!

Only it wasn’t mine, the boy was finally into his first carp of the year! A few mins later, possibly one of the smallest carp in the pond rolled into the net. He was happy, he had christened his new gear and he hadn’t blanked. IMG_2399.jpegI was bemoaning to the boy that I wasn’t going to catch anything, when I finally had a stuttering take and I struck into my first carp of the year! The new rod held up nicely, and I had soon netted the first of 2025.IMG_2405.jpegwe gave it a few hours, but there was no further action, but we were happy enough so wrapped it up, gave it best and headed home.

The son has taken to calling me Jesus, i christened one rod, crucified another and managed to (with Poingdestres help) resurrect it… 🙄

Better than being called Jonah I guess, which he could have, given the recent run of bad luck! It’s got to all be golden from here on in now though, with all of the mishaps done and dusted, so we will look forward to some big fish reports very time soon Ouchy!
