Me this year was catching a mullet when i wasn’t expecting to on chesil. The time and effort ive put in to catch these and failed. Even when they are under you on the pontoon or swimming on the surface in a harbour they seam to appear easy but simply are not. Well in my case they aren’t A10F174E-9B44-4190-855A-597FF5C02B37.png

There's a nice quiet spot here at the head of the Tamar estuary, and as the tide floods, there are always loads of big Mullet swimming around. I've often thought of trying for them, but I mainly fish to eat what I catch, and knowing what they have come through in their journey up the estuary, I don't fancy them!

For the mullet have a wander and find some seaweed that's started to rot and contains maggots. When tides out dig the seaweed into some channels in the sand over your chosen spot then fish over it with the fly rod when tide floods over it, mullet feed like mad on the maggots, can produce some great sport ?

My first ‘proper’ smoothound. Until this point I had only had a few pups. Managed a few better ones as the season progressed.

Then had a fun few bass sessions with Ben (Stormtrooper). On this night we were also practicing our line dancing whilst coordinating our outfits and facial hair.
