Never had a decent cod from a boat,
Beach - took 3 in a RAF match at Abbotsbury, Chesil, early 2000's, something like 14lb 13oz, 15lb 3oz, 15lb 10oz.

All taken on match rigs 1/0 hook, lug tipped with Mackerel/squid, while a whole squid stuffed with lug on the other rod wasn't touched.

Most anglers would be happy with one of those three! Did you win the match?

The largest I caught on a boat was 34lb, from the beach way back when was 9lb 3ozs.

No, I only came 2nd o_O
Which was my own fault as I was running the Southern area league & scored it on points per species, so the weight didn't matter.
iirc it was 5 points for a cod/codling so they got me 15 points, another chap caught 17 or 18 Whiting 2 points each so beat me for points

You were robbed!

Yep, that needs a VAR check!
Na, I can't argue when it was my scoring system.

Similar happened in the RAF Boat Champs, so rough we were stuck inside Poole harbour,
I caught a place 8lb 10oz, it was worth 3 points same as the palm size fish other people caught
Did win me a few bits from the magazines mind.
