Took my eldest out to fish the ebb in the hope the whiting were in a hungry mood and sure enough they didn’t disappoint. As soon as it got to dusk the tip started to move as the vanguard of small whiting came in to demolish the excellent bait from Matt and Larks at SW Seabaits in Plymouth. There must have been gazillions of whiting out there as the pout and dogs were struggling to get to the baits before the whiting, in the end we only had 2 dogs and a pout. All baits seemed to work, but, the biggest weighed in at 1lb 8oz was caught on sandeel and mackerel cocktail, it gave a cracking bite and did its best to pull the lightweight gear around.
My lad did well and caught lots, but, we found the bigger fish were caught just a little bit beyond his casting range. Still a beautiful night to be out and lots of action to keep us busy, plus a few whiting to make into tasty fish cakes.
