I fished Clacton last night and I hoped that if I fished over low in very shallow water I might be able to avoid the whiting. This worked quite well and I had a couple of flatties, a small plaice and the target fish, a sole, again small. As soon as the water got to about 18 inches deep, the whiting were around in huge numbers and I was filling my hooks up every cast. The only hope of catching anything decent at the minute is to fish in daylight. As soon as it gets dark, the whiting are out in force ripping your baits apart.

What is that sticking out of the plaices mouth.?
