Targets

Just getting to the coast will be a target achieved , I have missed the whole cod season , maybe a spring run will be on the cards, its happened before ,so fingers crossed .

As far as targets are concerned, I gave up on them years ago, in fact I never really target any species, as far as beach fishing is concerned I hope for what the venue is known for at the time, eg Yorkshire winter coast, Cod, Summer, Smoothies or Ray.

Really looking forward to getting out on the boats again when some sort of normality returns, I miss my boat fishing for cod and ling, tope, ray, pollack.

Dave

Locally in the estuary for bass and plaice when the crab starts with the chance of a spring codling or two. Away to Ceredigion for Easter if we are allowed, lure fishing for bass if it's settled and the sandeels are starting to shoal although it will probably be a bit too early so more likely off the beach with bait for bass and SE's

Will be after the rays and plaice on the Devon , Dorset area and the Bristol Channel for the better specimens. Mind just a few bites and a doggy be appreciated ?

So wots everyone’s plan once they relax lockdown a bit fishing wise I’ll hopefully be arfter se rays and early plaice can’t wait to get out there again wot you lads gonna be after ???

Hiya TJ,
If the lockdown rules are eased fairly soon i'll be trying for an early Thornie or Huss, if it's another couple of months it'll bring the Tope & Smoothies into the equation.
Rick?

Main target for me this year big Huss never had a big bugger but there’s plenty round these parts just got put the effort in ?

Don’t know really. It’ll be pretty dead here until April when the SE move in, then hounds towards the end of May.
Must attempt to get out for a huss very soon, just for something to do.
My winter usually involves trips up channel but had a lot on before Christmas and obviously lockdown put an end to that idea.
I’ll fish local but driving 20-30 miles or more up to the BC would be taking the pee just a tad.
Maybe try Chesil for plaice/rays when it’s allowed but my experience there (such as it is), is you get a window up to April for the early plaice, then the spiders move in and it’s not worth the bother as the worm won’t stay on the hook for two minutes.
I know people do have good plaice sessions down there but I can never seem to get away from the spiders ??‍♂️

I'd like to catch a decent plaice but also want to catch a bass bigger than a couple of pounds. Whatever I try to catch, it will involve a bit of travelling.
