Hi all
I was just wondering if there is a simple fix to avoiding snoods from tangling around the main line of a trace.
Thanks

Use clipped down rigs, or look into using some silicone tubing as a stand-off.

Perfect, thank you, just looking at some videos on how to make clipped down rigs, will definitely have to get some tubing as that seems a great idea

I clip down as little as possible. My unclipped rigs are usually two or three hookers, all above the weight, spaced so they can’t interfere with each other. Rig body is 80lbs clear mono and snoods usually 20-25lbs clear amnesia. I’ve been messing around with fluorocarbon lately, as this is stiffer and I’ve had no problems.

I was gonna say, I never use tubing as just complicates the simplicity of effective rigs.
Common causes of tangles are in my experience
Tangles during the cast…hook lengths too long and overlapping the next swivel.
Hooks lengths tangled on retrieve…hook lengths too long for strength of tide.
But having said that it probably only works for me! 😂

Amnesia is my go to trace line - I’ve unravelled some right messy eel tangles and with a bit of pulling through the fingers it’s perfectly usable again.
It’s not what it was now. I find it drags on itself when tying knots and quite rough texture wise. I’m seriously thinking about going back to maxima for my snoods. I’m still playing with fluorocarbon and that can be interesting to tie as well.

I would use pulley pennel if I was out myself and after something bigger but as for match fishing, 2 and 3 hook flapper rigs work for me but I must try different mono and lengths and suss that out

I still don’t find it too bad, although I agree they changed it at some point and it’s not as slick as it was.

Must admit I rarely use anything other than a pulley rig clipped down unless I’m fishing the N Norfolk shingle, which sadly I havnt done sine pre Covid.
Yep, I'm the same just pully's of different lengths, but just seen a vid of a "Portsmouth loop pully" which looks like a good Chesil rig.

The hook lengths and cascade swivel take loading of the cast with that rig.

I'm going to have to learn how to tie the clipped down rigs, they seem very tricky
