Firstly the blanks are surprisingly light for a 14ft rod and I believe that the blanks are all carbon.
The patents that Italcanna hold are to do with the spigot which are slightly more bulbous than either century or zziplex but I have no doubt that they do two things the first is they do not cause a significant flat spot in the blank and secondly they do not have any issues of not being able to get the rods apart even when new. I have been using mine for about 4 years now and I still have plenty of spigot even though I have worn my way through about 15mm. The male section still mates well and is not sloppy. I have not looked after them and Chesil especially West Chesil means that I have no doubts that I have introduced lots of sand and salt into the mix in the time I have owned them.

I am getting on now and the heaviest rod I can properly compress is a AFAW Tournament Match Pro MK2, as far as power goes the LAs sit just below the AFAWs.
What I can do is generate a lot of tip speed because I have a lot of mass (big fat old lump), in practical terms I will either cast OTG or I swing the lead under the rod and then hit it as it passes behind me (sort of low swing).
So 5oz I can get that lead really moving, the rod compresses progressively so rather than deliver a great big lump of power it seems to unwind from the butt up when you release. If you used early high end carbon mix daiwa rods then the release is similar but much faster because the blank is so slim.

The rod is fast but progressive.

To explain this better the glass mix zziplexs feel much slower then the LAs and the stiff graphene Centurys feel faster.
The result is simple you can get right into the LA blank and the output is more predictable, everything you put in does come back out very smoothly and predictably. I do aim slightly higher then I would with my Century Graphene rods.

The rod does have a lot of rings not sure how many but 11 intermediates I think is correct.

With 6oz I can lock the bank up, the results are as pleasing when you let go, the only slightly disconcerting feeling is that with a blank that feels so light it does feel that you are beating it up, you are not, they love a 6oz and it will go as far as 5oz.

7oz just no....... the rods are rated to 200g and although I have chucked a 200G out in a big sea I quickly switched back to a 170g.

Fishing with them is the big win, the tip never pulls the lead out, bites show through the whole tip, the tip pulls into the tide, its a carbon tip but its not too stiff and does not ping the lead out.
I love the LAs for Chesil and use them over cleanish ground along the south coast but I would not recommend them into heavy ground the blank is just not fast enough to deal with pulling big leads and kelp about, you need something stiffer.

If your a massive caster and range is your game then again you will find other 5-8oz rods which you will like better.

But if you have moderate talents or are getting on a bit then you wont beat an LA in my opinion, the blank is bloody lovely and there is nothing out there better I have tried them all.

Do not buy the shorter version they feel different again but not in a positive way.

Writing this makes me feel slightly conflicted the distributor in the UK is Breakaway and I bloody hate them

Can't throw them away due to all the memories attached to each them. Weird how I can remember the catches and locations fished with all these rods but sometimes struggle to know what day of the week it is!

Hmm, OK then...
The number seems to be 49 at the moment. It's not as bad as it sounds because 19 of them are fly rods. I still have my first rod, a solid glass spinning rod that's nearly 60 years old. It still gets an occasional outing in the summer when the mackerel are in range.

The 1 chuck I had with yours was nice , we'll have to meet up when the plaice are in so I can have a few more casts in daylight mate , 1st impressions are they certainly are nice bits of kit
