Headed to Chesil yesterday around 2pm, I nearly didn't go when I saw the traffic at 10am but had the day off work so thought, why not...
Baits hit the water and I waited patiently... then waited some more... and some more...
Day time was absolutely dire!!! I had a chat to my mate who fished the day before and he informed me that he'd blanked so I was not expecting much.
Eventually, as the sun hit the horizon, I managed to wangle out my first fish of the day... A small undulate ray.
That was the start of a busy few hours, with a variety of species making an appearance, including a few mackerel, bream, cod and some nice eels to over 14lb on mackerel heads and fillets fished in the gutter.
Nice to put a decent bend in the rod, as my last 2 trips to Chesil have been busy, but with no real monsters.
I packed up at around 1am and headed to the waters edge to discard of my bait and I caught a glimpse of a big fish in the surf. I put my head torch on full beam, and as I did, I caught about 30 fish of a similar size, darting in and out of the surf in around 5 inches of water, splashing and leaping out of the water. I thought they were mullet to start with but they looked more like salmon. Any thoughts on what they could have been?
I tried to feather for them but by this time, they had moved further down the beach.

A few pics from the sesh.

Cheers.

Nicely done bazzer...... big old mullet would be my guess, i have seen similar, I reckon they come right in to pick up the dead whitebait I have seen it myself after a tough session at abbo....... walk down at the end of the session and see 1000s of them at 4 yards.

Cheers mate. Ye was pretty crazy to see

Nice report and a good few fresh fish for the table.

Mullet are really distinctive so they could have been bass or maybe Shad? They look a bit like salmon

Cheers mate. You know what, that did cross my mind, and now I've seen a pic, I'm convinced you're right. I've done my fair share of mullet fishing and I have never seen them as erratic as the fish I saw on Friday, day or night. Cheers for sharing
