Rod Ring Replacement.

Did this for you know where a while back
I'm so glad I watched that video before I attempted to use epoxy as I definitely would have been panicking and would most likely have been trying to scrape the stuff off halfway through.

Brilliant video Stan, so informative. Thanks again.

Depends how much you think you will waste :ROFLMAO: Except on very light rods (nymph etc) I always gave two coats min. The stupid high build up in one coat and then even stupider UV lights to cure it serves only one purpose, crazing down the line as the resin goes brittle. See picture, a Penn surf rod churned out some asian country on high build and UV curing, ready to fish an hour after coating, yeh right. This was it 8 months later.

2 oz high build kit should be fine, apply with brush. I`ll se if I can find a wee video I did a few years back.

That looks like one of the Penn V series?

Really interesting thread. I have about five rods that need single ring replacements so I will have a go now but can anyone advise on what type of apoxy to buy for varnishing and where to get it from?
A bit late to this party, but I just message the local bloke that repairs my rods 😇

Worth bearing in mind, for a quick temporary fix you can use insulation tape. I keep a spare set of cheap eyes at home and will stick one on as a temp fix until I can get the appropriate replacement. At least this way you can keep using your favourite rod 😉

I did a temporary fix on one of my rods with insulating tape on a ring about ten years ago. Still working perfectly! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

This is the way!
I have a rod that is the same. The tape works perfectly well.
I believe a lot of tournament casters use tape on their blanks as it makes it easier to tune the rod on the fly.

Yep "bagging tape" is the usual choice. It doesn't stretch like insulating tape and so holds the guides on more securely. It's all I use on my lava rock rods for fishing in the Canaries. I carry spare tape rewound onto a plastic pill container that holds a few spare guides just in case of mishaps which can be almost inevitable when scrambling over the pumice stone moonscapes of the 'Dog Isles'
