Hi all, just wondering if anyone is using the surfblaster. I have one and as I reel it, it's not as free or easy to reel, if that makes sense, as an akios I have. It seems a little tighter than the akios. Just wondering if this is normal with penn reels.
Thanks

I've got a Surfblaster I & II and not had a problem with either. Perhaps have a look on Youtube for servicing Penn FS reels and give it a stripdown & clean.

Penn are like many American brands, (especially their cars) they're a bit on the basic side, over engineered, & lack finesse,
just like me which is why I like them ;)
Are the two set up the same ? simply having heavier line on one can completely change the feel, make sure the line roller is free if stuck it makes a reel feel hard work.
Because they're over engineered it can require a bit more input to get things moving but once winding it should be smooth & free, see how it feels off the rod.

How many inches of line does each reel recover per turn of the handle?
Also, handle length will impact this too.

If one reel recovers 39 inches with a 4 inch handle, and the other reel recovers 44 inches with a 4 inch handle, one will feel harder to reel in because it is actually doing more work and recovering more line per turn of the handle.

Hope that makes sense.

if its the surfblaster 3, its had the line roller screw tightened too much, causing the roller to bind, making the retrieve way harder than it should
slightly slacken off the screw, oil and should be fine for the next few sessions before it siezes up inside
the 3 is shit compared to the mk 1 n 2
also check the roller for any grooves due to the above, as its made from chinky take away carton metal, and will groove when just being stared at in a nasty way :)
