Newer Rod Brands.

Spoke to an old friend that I hadn't heard from for a long time recently,he's a keen match anglers well known on the south coast. He was always a zziplex man and used bullets for a long time but he now has italcana but more recently zulcron but I haven't met up either him so not seen them but he was always a big caster so I know without doubt his zulcrons will be too powerful for me. To be honest I'm not looking to buy more rods, just curious what some of these newer brands are like, my daiwa tournament pro surfs are great for clean to mixed ground which is ninety percent of my fishing.
I think the T9s and the daiwas have it covered too.
But hopefully we get to share some shingle and your welcome to have a swing!

Like many on here I too have had used many many rods, I have never been a fan of Zipplex, had around 6 different models (gets expensive when you purchase in pairs) and remained totally unimpressed with them, particulary the actions of the rods, all felt like casting with the butt section and nothing else, same with the retrieve. I liked some of the Century's I owned, again owning approx 8 or 9 different models, I feel they peaked with the Supermatch mk2 which I enjoyed using, not overly impressed with the newer models (tried a few casts with the Graphex supermatch, Excaliber j curves, I feel they are way overpriced for what they offer. Currently using the Tronixpro Blackouts and Naga's, the Blackout is a peach of a rod with a action to die for, Naga's are just for the heavier side of fishing but still nice rods. Become disillusioned with British rods in general, I feel that a lot of the cost of a British rod has little to do with quality anymore and more to do with paying all the asscociated taxs and costs, eg pensions, wage rises, taxes import duties ( much of the rod is made from outside products like guides, reel seats etc and probably the Carbon cloth as well ) something to consider in today's economic climate

I've had many different brands of rod over the years.
Stand outs other than daiwa and zziplex have to be leada uptide rods and Ron Thompson Axes.

Goes to show we're all different. I've no experience with those models but I do see folk referring to the brand as Tronix Poo, your experience is obviously the opposite of that!

Strange thing re the costs and imported guides/reel seats, carbon etc as daiwa top end rods are still made in Scotland and the tournament pro is fitted out with Fuji guides and reel seats and even though I've been a fan of zziplex and century the daiwa build quality is up there with them and can be bought for half the price of top end zziplex and century probably due to the shear volume and range of products they sell globally.

Has anyone any experience with the Zulcron Bass?
My mate has one. It’s a lovely 5oz casting rod, but I wouldn’t class it as a bass rod. Another mate has a pair of Zulcron 435 GTs and whilst they’re nice rods, they aren’t as tippy as my Zeteque TXL GT.

I’d still be using AWB 129 PMs if they didn’t go soft. I got through five of them, plus two 122s. Still using and loving my SLR pluses. My zeteque is my go to rod in matches where I I’m only using one rod. I also love my conti set ups, especially the really light ones I bought a couple of months ago. I cast 2-3oz weights in them with the lightest quiver tip and they are an absolute delight to use. This is my Trabucco Impera with a 5oz lead plus bait. Just a simple overhead thump goes miles.

Liked the Zulcrons, had a pair of the match's, wouldn't say there a beach rod or a match rod but they came into there own off my local rock marks ! good lifting rod as well !
“had a pair of match’s” did you move them on ? And what if any did you replace them with, just curious

Yeah, my mate had them for using on the Bristol channel, think i replaced them with either AFAW Match pro's or mk1 Tournament match's, since sold the Match pro's but kept the Tourny match's as they were rebuilt with titanium guides

You say uk built rods have parts like reel seats, rings and in fact all components made abroad and this selection of components after duty etc makes the rods expensive.
I don't follow the point your making?
The Naga is 400. quid and shares the same components as a Century.
