Taken from another forum, will it include sea fishing.

Just seen this post from Simon Pomeroy on Facebook

BREAKING NEWS REFERENCE LEAD BAN

A controversial topic for some but a real 'no brainer' to me as the facts have been there for years.
I have just received the EU Commissions recommendations to the REACH evaluation into lead in angling from research completed by the European Chemicals Agency.
I am very pleased to see that their recommendations are that there will be a phase out ban of lead angling weights.
I am also very happy to see that the recommendation in regards to purposefully ejectioning leads will be banned from 6 months of the legislation being enacted. I bought this practice to the attention of ECHA and they were, rightly so, horrified that such a reckless act was being promoted by the industry.
It is also, on several levels, positive to see that products containing a concentration of 1% of lead or more must come with the following warning clearly displayed.
WARNING: This product contains lead which is very toxic to the environment and may damage fertility, or the unborn child.
The time is here, has been for years, for the industry to do the right thing and go over to the readily available non toxic options like the following companies have already done:
Nutrabaits, Dinsmores, Energofish, Evolve Tackle, Lead Free, UFO and so many more.
If the UK industry ignores such a stark warning you really have to question their agendas?
If anyone would like any further information, especially concerned fisheries, please feel free to contact me.
Kind regards. Simon.

Lead shot was supposed to be phased out for shotgun cartridges many years ago. It is still being used, even for water-fowling.

A slightly different angle to the fishing side, but on op health grounds was mentioned.

I worked in the Water Industry and lead pipes to properties is/are/was a common practice.

Samples taken regularly/daily would include testing for lead in the water. I never heard of any in 40 years that exceeded levels.

And in Fact our Company used water drawn from lead mines.

Is not lead a natural mineral?

Not sure where you've got that from but neither parts are true

Blame Google and AI research, not me, I just posted it. As it happens I was reading about it the other day.

  • Research Findings:
    • A study published in 2024 by the University of Cambridge found that 93% of pheasants destined for human consumption were killed using lead ammunition in the 2023/24 season.
    • A study of 171 pheasants killed in the 2024-25 shooting season found that where any shot was still in the carcass all but one had been killed with lead ammunition.
    • Research by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) found that in the 2018/19 shooting season, 87% of 121 ducks tested had been illegally shot with lead.
    • A study of Red Grouse corpses shot during the 2024-25 season found that all of the 78 carcasses from which shot was recovered contained lead shotgun pellets.

Years ago when there was lead in petrol all kids could read all could do simple maths and some passed GCEs that most 16 year olds would fail today.
Then we took lead out of petrol because it was 'harming kids' intelligence'.

I assume it’s more about freshwater fishing? Might be wrong though.

I have been known to purposely ejection (!) up to 15 leads a trip on rough marks 😳
It's not so much the leads , it's the mono and tethered fish.

"NARC’s first official dive took place in April 2005 off Stackpole Quay when the diving team pulled up no fewer than 630 fishing weights which equated to 72 kilos of lead.

“But it isn’t the lead that’s a problem,” said Dave. “It’s the monofilament lines, which take 600 years to biodegrade.”

As a result, a large number of NARC’s dives are concentrated around Pembrokeshire’s angling sites, including Martin’s Haven, Cresswell Quay and the Fishguard breakwater."

Average of 4 or 5oz per lead, nothing is likely to ingest those. The line 'problem' is the tiniest fraction of the plastics used in lost nets in commercial fishing..

It must be true if you read it on the internet🤣

The way debate works is that statements are made and evidence produced to back the statement. If it is thought to be false the other side finds and produces evidence to the contrary.
Like any 'debate' on this forum it will degenerate into insults. Why not read the report and get back to me explaining where they are wrong, and why?

Im not insulting you but now you are attempting to strongarm me because you obviously feel hurt that your research was wrong. That's not my fault. I'm not entering into debate with you so forget trying to belittle me with such arrogance. Good day to you
