As the title suggests I decided to fish hordle cliffs Friday for an afternoon/evening session. Was hoping that there maybe a chance of my first Ray of the year. Bait was a combination of bluey, squid, ragworm and sprats.
Started fishing 2hrs before high, 1 scratching rod with a loop rig with rag tipped with squid and the other an up and over with either bluey/squid or sprat/squid wrap. Second cast on the up and over and a steady pull round had a dinner plate size small eye ray on the beach, so target achieved albeit a small one. Next cast produced a similar bite and another small eye ray though a bit bigger this time. The scratching rod produced a few pin whiting and a dogfish though it did give a much more positive bite an hour after high and a double shot was landed of another small eyed ray and a pin whiting. 2 hours down and the scratching rod gave a positive rattle and a little smut pup was the culprit. That was my last bite until bang on low when i had another dogfish. I was intending on fishing the first hour back up but I was starving so called it a night.
I slept in my van overnight and after a visit to keyhaven to watch the sunrise I headed to the cafe before returning back to hordle for a day session. Well in my findings, no two days fish the same and today was definitely not like yesterday. No bites until the afternoon/early evening high which resulted in a blank saving dogfish. The forecast was wrong as well with a NW the supposed wind direction but was actually quite a stiff westerly, sometimes south westerly which made for a rough sea.
Happy with what I caught though so can't complain.
Tight lines.
