Good guy on eBay.

Maybe time to put a few clips on a Youtube channel Si? 👍👍

One rod is more than enough when those big stingers are feeding! It's a two or even 3 man job landing them on a sloping sand beach never mind from the rocks. Take care SiFly👍

It's by catch.....honest Guv 🤫
We used to get a lot of them in the 80's and 90's in South and west Wales but they were over fished and as slow breeders they have not recovered. You can still get the odd one although you are more likely to find one stranded on big tides. Like bringing in a sack of spud until you try and pick them up

I've been scouring the interweb for some 6mm steel rings & other bits to make some assist hooks. After an online chat with this guy yesterday, he has come up with exactly what I was looking for, at a reasonble price with good customer service. We all have a moan when things go wrong, but too often, good service goes unmentioned.
His eBay shop is worth a look for all sorts of end tackle.

If you want assist solid rings Dave, then make sure you use the proper stainless rings with chamfered edges.

I get mine from Terry at Jigabite ................... https://www.jigabite.co.uk/

The spilt rings I use are Sakuma extra strong 7mm.

View attachment 41474i got a few packs of these the other day in the smallest size, I'll let you know if any good 👍

That rigging picture is not quite right.

The solid ring holding the two back to back assist hooks goes onto the split ring, and the split ring then goes onto a solid ring tied on the line. The idea is to get max movement of the hooks, as you work the lure the hooks should flail around, which is why you get a good number of fish hooked in the vicinity of the head but sometimes not in the mouth.

Haha! Thanks Ian! That post was over 3 months ago! Got some, made some assist hooks, but plans changed & haven't used them yet. (y)(y)

Yes, I know I am late to the table, but a lot of the cheap solid rings on ebay and ali do not have the rounded edges, and that significantly reduces the line strength.

TBH, I buy all my slow jig assist hooks from Terry. I use the Yammai Hikari ready made twin assists, as it works out cheaper than buying the components separately (decent slow jig hooks are expensive).

Yep, they don't do much at all...had 3 in the end 23-27lb...very little fight not like the 150y+ runs from some of the stingers on a max drag 😳
