I tried it but found the hook can get stuck at the wrong angle sometimes causing missed fish 😥 So I've gone back to a loop

I think if the eye of the hook was the other way then I think it would work better 😃
I thought that also to start with but I think it would still cause the same problem. The eye sometimes travels up the side of the clip and locks in wrong position and stops the free movement of the hook

Some circle hooks come from factory with a small welded ring on them so methinks a very small split ring would be better ??
I was thinking the same thing - because the Breakaway links (i love them) have too much structure to them - you need something clean and simple.

I've seen the VMO video but can't remember why he thought it was a good idea - maybe to change hooks quickly? What's the rush!

This got me thinking... so I just made my own.. had a #5 Owner circle hook.. heated eye slightly.. opened it a put a small welded ring in from an assist hook of a jig and closed it up.. voila.. ring hook.. :)

Use a swivel or if not wanting to heat the hook use a split ring.

Or some form of coated braid hook length.. they have been using this rig some years in the carp fishing world.

Do away with the loop.
Use a standard J hook instead.
Then use a semi circle above that.
In other words, a pennel 👍

Tried the link but found the bend was too tight and could cause the hook not to set so went back to the loop system. Apart from this my hook up rate is no different to a penal and really negates deep hooking fish. The only thing I wouldn’t really use em for is bass but then again just like saltwater carp. For my ray ,hound etc fishing I would rather be putting them back with the least amount of damage or fumbling about trying to remove two swallowed hooks.

Never seen this stuff before.. (y)
