Chesil

Some day I'd love to be able to make the trip from Ireland and fish it, is it as good as I've read?

Like anywhere else, it depends on the day.
I've had days where the bait is hardly touched, but I've had a couple where the bites are so thick & fast I was struggling to rebait & get hooks back in the water fast enough, one evening session I landed 3 cod all 14-15lb, but days like that are few & far between.

The legend of places like Chesil & Dungeness was born at the time when the first "modern" beach casting kit hit the market, combined with there being plenty of fish, today most are a shadow of that, but they can still have their day.

What part of Ireland are you fishing ? Having lived just outside Dublin from 1990 to 1995 I traveled all around the coast fishing and absolutely loved it. As previous post I don't think any of the well known beaches can live up to thier past reputation and most are hit and miss. Social media doesn't help either, last year my area went from dogs and straps to decent size bream overnight but someone stuck it on Facebook and the netters were straight in and within a week we were left scratching for undersize fish.

One of the problems with the Web. Me n my mates in yarmouth would never post about bass we caught.

One report of a decent fish on FB and the banks were full.

Glad I'm in the south west now.

I love it down here. Unless I win huge on the lotto I'll die here happy.

From Leicester originally and love going back but don't want to stay there. Yarmouth is a shite hole.

Just loving Plymouth and the south west.

I just don't get this whole jam cream thing on ya scones.

Eat the feckers how you want to FGS.

PS.

It's jam first by the way.

Doing my research, there is a campsite right next to it, could load of the caravan some week for sure

Be lovely down there today 🤔
I took a quick drive around the foreshore yesterday after collecting Wifey's Meds.
There was a 5ft swell with white tops to the waves inside the breakwater in the harbour.
I dread to think what places on the open coast like Chesil were. 😮😮

I had a look on Hive beach cafe webcam yesterday and the sea was wild . It looked as though the beach had taken a bit of a kicking aswell. 100% chance of being shingled had you got near enough to cast a line 😁
