Catch and release?

I haven’t taken a bass for years Andy would personally like to see others behave in a similar way, but I do respect the right to take what is caught as long as they are legal size and not the bigger specimens which are all females.
I occasionally take bream and mackerel, but as I fish ten hours away from home usually, it’s a pointless exercise for me to take them home.
We as recreational anglers should in my opinion take the moral high ground and reduce our own impact on stocks, before it’s too late.

So if you like to eat fish you will be putting more pressure on CF to supply you, would it not?
Then we have anglers complaining about CF as they are now!

Seems like a catch 22 situation to me!

I rarely eat fish these days anyway, but I’d welcome a moratorium on commercial activities for vessels over a certain size and try to not only conserve our stocks, but increase them to 1960/70’s levels. Ban trawling totally and STOP all non U.K. activity within our own waters.

If I catch something that is good to eat, and big enough, then I will keep it and eat it.

I will only take what I, or my family can eat too. I have seen too many so called anglers take bin bags of mackerel to then find half of them dumped in the bins back at car parks or on the camp site. Now that does make me angry!

If I go mackie fishing, I take enough for us to eat fresh and if late in the season freeze 4 extra for winter fishing.
If you handle them with bare hands they perish anyway beach . A good practice is to shake them off the hook with a pair of pliers if your not keeping them . I suppose you know this already beach lol . I just mentioned it incase others may not have known (y)

I know Joe! ?? But it's a bit like climate change and/or global warming. We have one bunch telling us that we are all criminals with the levels of our CO2 emissions, and another bunch telling us that "Climates change - they have done for 1000's of years" which is true, and a top scientist that used to be high up in Greenpeace or similar saying "if we cut CO2 emissions too much, it will affect our ability to grow sufficient food, because plants need a good supply of CO2 to survive". I just do me own thing Boss!

Yeah your very right that plants and trees breathe in c02 . The climate change issue is a challenging one to answer trampster . Some pointers to look at are is that Co2 is one of the longest living gases to exist and stays around much longer than other natural gases . The balance of oxygen needing animal respiration Vs plants and tree's c02 respiration i do not know ? But it must have something to do with that pal . I do know that we deffinatley need far more oxygen present in our breathing air with only 20 percent oxygen in our breathing air currently .

I always shake them off.

But even if handled which many are, i have never seen them floating around, more chance of a dead bass after release after some have played with it.

Agree. Probably partly responsible for my chest problems, and I do wonder how much effect working as a truck driver for 40+ years has had, following other vehicles up & down the motorways.

Ha, very rare I’ll return any mackerel, it’s always food or bait.
BUT, once I’ve caught whatever I want, whether it’s half a dozen for bait or a few more for stocks, I’ll stop fishing for them.
