Evening All,

My current j braid is end near of life and need to spool a few reels up with some new fresh braid.
I was looking at getting some Suffix 131 in my regular 20lb but these new braids are super thin and i question their abrasion resistance especially at the locations that fish which is razor sharp under foot.

I also looked at the Westin W10 and that stuff is even thinner again !! with the 30lb being 1.5PE!!

Anyone used both braids and compared them?

Due to the low PE of these thinking of getting 30lb as a compromise for the abrasion resistance??

I tried using Braid but got endless wind knots so went back to mono.
The reel I was using at the time might have had something to do with it.
On recommendation from one of the guys on here, I've now bought some 8 strand 60Lb/0.40 Dyneems Saratoga to try straight through, but haven't loaded it up yet.

Only use braid for lure fishing so dont need anything to big. Would never dream of using in my FS as like you wind knot hell !!

My bad - I didn't twig that you'd posted this in the Lure fishing section.
The Braid I had on my F/S beach reel that gave me a lot of problems (KastKing 28Lb I think) got removed and there was enough to spool it on my 3000 & 4000 Shimano F/S reels for the lure & Bass rods - didn't have a problem with it on there. Probably better line lay on the Shimanos.

Most likely overloaded or using the reel handle to engage the bail when there's slack line, thus causing loops. I'm still using ancient Spinfishers (on the boat where distance casting is not needed) that are definitely not known for great line lay yet I have zero problems with 'wind knots'....they're not magically created by the wind! They are loops of slack line caused by operator error!

So slightly underfill your spools, avoid slack line getting on to the reel at all times and close the bail by hand. Simple.

I've only ever had issues with braid when overspooling my reels. With Penns especially I underspool slightly. As soon as I go slightly over underspooling I get consistent windknots but very rarely otherwise (y) I sometimes use 45lbs straight through for close in rough ground work or livebaiting. Use the spectra stuff think its £4 per 1000m spool and never let me down. Tight lines,

I just use Diawa Sensor Mono on all my reels and never had a problem.

The OP us asking about braid not reels
I use joff from Ali express over say 10yrs I've had about 15 windknots
Watch out for Power Pro sizings USA is completely different to European sizings
