For nostalgic reasons, really wanted to get the 3 pieces of Lionel's DAM Pirate Allround 3-pc 9' f/glass rod separated and, thereby, more easily usable in his memory. Its 1-2 section metal-socket joint was simply firmly stuck and the 2-3 joint was rough & could have easily been stuck also if pushed a bit more. As a starter, I lightly primed rim of female part at the stuck 1-2 joint with virgin olive oil several times over an hour or so. And then (actually to my surprise) 'POP' - free ! (No hot or cold poultices at all.) Then scrubbed-up both 1-2 and 2-3 metal-joint parts with some scrunched up aluminium foil. Everything back to normal and useable. Whether Lionel and I will be smiling or cursing after I've thrown a few hooks with his old DAM has yet to be tested !! :)

"Why olive oil?" you might ask rather than something like WD40. I know how well WD40, for example, can penetrate and free-up "stuck" connections, but I also know that quality olive oil can clean up wood-sap encrusted cutting tools. If it could work, I was thinking that olive oil so much nicer/kinder penetrating lube for fishing gear and, in this case, my hunch proved correct.
