hi guys I'm bored and considering making a little 6 or 10 hook long line for tonight's tide lol ?

not something iv done before but was just thinking of using some little old hooks that I'll never use rod and line fishing and just laying it out with little baits for flatties ...
wondering if there's any laws against this lol ? it feels wrong to me but it's popped in my head and the tides too late to fish with a rod tonight .
bass police rest easy there's pretty much 0 chance of any being there at the moment .
anyone tried it before ?
don't hate me haha ?
just fancy a dab or 2

...oh and id wait for it to be covered before leaving it be and getting there before it's uncovered tomo

Unless there is a local by-law and you are not using a powered vessel (obviously not) then can`t think what law you are breaking if any except it could be classed as an unnecessary journey

Bass police :ROFLMAO: those nuts. They have probably never caught a tuna. Cannot fight to save itself, tastes like cotton wool and full of bones. Mind you the wee illegal juveniles are full of oil and make superb shark chum when walloped through a mixer.

thanks and I suppose it is unnecessary travel but I'll be walking im just over 1 mile from where it'll be fished .. genuinely will be the only exercise iv taken today too lol

I only used a baited long line with 50 hooks way back when (1960's) and set it from a boat 1/4 mile offshore anchored each end and a flag floating vertical on the surface.

My old man used to lay out 3 dozen baits or more using a homemade winder like a hose pipe reel. He'd use fair sized hooks to try and stop too many gut hooked small fish. Usually mussels as bait
I used to use blow lug and size 2 hooks.

I've done it in the past on a sandy beach with 20 hooks a long time ago and used an empty plastic bottle as a marker on one end. For the anchor points I use a 6"x6" x 1" square piece of wood with 2 holes drilled into the center for tying the line to. Buried them about 12 inches deep so the suction of the sand wouldn't let loose of them. baited with squid on 2/0 Aberdeens and buried the hooks under loose sand so seagulls couldn't get them just as it was getting dark. Went down next low water tide and had 2 whiting 7 flounders and 1 codling. All went back. Its a good method but you must be there as the tides dropping. I unhooked them in knee deep water hence the marker bottle could be spotted straight away. Never done it again takes the fun out of catching fish. But Goodluck on what you decide mate?

Me and my dad used to do that as well had some nice cod using this method....we used to pick low water in darkness and pick them back up next day used to bait up with mackerel squid and frozen blacks.....

sounds good mate and yeah I can see what you mean about takes the fun out of fishing but it's just a random idea that popped into my head earlier ...i fish almost every week sea or coarse it's not something I would do regularly ..

i simply placed 2 6ft long banksticks half into the mud 3ft showing and have only 8 hooks on a tight line between them ... I watched the water cover them and am going back around the time it uncovers again predawn .
lockdown boredom lol

will let you know .. sounds unpsporting and it is lol ...but only a one off experiment ...
i change to fly if the trout are easy on the worm rod that day or change to a spinning rod instead of feather when macky in not out to get hauls lol anything caught will be eaten or used as bait if small

Not un-sporting if you are trying to catch something to eat.
Just similar to setting a lobster/crab pot

scores on the doors a big fat 0
strange as half the baits were untouched .. would of been unusual to blank there if I'd fished the tide with rod n line ...sure fish were nearby maybe bait washed out quickly but who knows .

least you tried! I've not done it for years but dogfish were the main catch.
