I am off on holiday, so did not want to travel far or to be out too late. Decided on Boscombe Pier and it was a decent decision!

It was pretty quiet with no tinsel tossers, but a few squid hopefuls. Set up my 2 x 10ft flattie rods with new rigs made for the day using Kamazan 4 crab hooks on 10 inch snoods. I used to use them for bream and stopped for some reason. Haddock joined me and was first in with a few plaice.

Not too bothered as it was early doors. First up was a nice little, but quite thick plaice. These are to be expected on that stretch now. There are plenty of them and hopefully bodes well for the future. I am seeing lots of them and they are getting bigger each year! Must have had at least 4.

Not much later and a double shot of gilthead bream and sole come in.

As some of you know. I have been trying for spotties and also a thornie. I got my wish on a bit of rag on a litte size 4 crab hook. It was a tiny, but perfect thornie and gave me species number 37. If I can get a new species in a session I am happy. Its getting harder now to do that!

The pier is filling up a bit now, but no out of control casting from mackie bashers! The black bream started to show by actually catching them as you could see regular "stabby bites" from them, reckon I had over 6 of them.

The sun was setting which was glorious and I did not notice the girly on the paddle board - honest!

I had a different kind of bite and the fish stayed deep. It was a tub gurnard and it refused to display its fins to show off that beautiful turqoise colour. I was hoping it was a grey gurnard, but it was not to be.

I really seemed to be hitting the right spot (there is a feature there) as I seemed to be way the most busy with fish. Haddock asked for one of my rigs and I gifted them both to him at the end. Praise indeed!

I had more sole, loads of black bream and another tiny thornie. I could see others catching the odd squid and those guys were displaying a bit of respect for others and not fishing under you arm as Haddock says.

The night was not over. Two guys were wanting to fight each other and a beach caster was shattered when two guys tried to flip an easy double figure (and some) conger over the rail. I was helping to hand ball it up with my gloves on, but some other guy though he knew better, muscled in, so it was hands up and walk away for me. Then he called one, two, threeee, they both lifted and bang, no conger and no rod left, well still a rod, but it was in bits! We did find his weight later on the deck, but giving it back to him did not cheer him up at all. Needs a bit of finesse there guys!

Back to the fishing, Again another different take and a much stronger feel to the fish to those caught previously. It made the 10ft rod work a bit and I could see it was flat before it dived again. Lifted it onto the pier and could see the tubercles on its back. A nice turbot. It was just under size, but it did give me species number 38 for the year. I only need one more to match my personal best.

A good easy session, plenty of fish with 2 for my hunt, a bit of drama, not much of a walk and 35 mins from home. Happy with that.

Plaice. 4 or more.
Gilt head bream.
Sole. x 3 or more.
Black bream. At least 6.
Thornback ray. x 2.
Tub gurnard.
Turbot

Haddock had some different fish with undulate and scad.

Good luck if you are out.

I had a mini conger and a smoothhound pup as well to add to the list, 11 species between us for the evening.

The rigs are plaice magnets, I had seven this afternoon, three tub gurnards, (two of them were the smallest I've ever seen, about 6 inches long) and an undulate.
No bream at all today which was strange.

Not mentioned by Goateee, but a Romanian chap stopped to chat for a while, a freshwater fisherman who had never sea fished. He was so taken by the stream of fish being caught that he went to get his kit from his van. With one of Goatees rigs and one of my weights he set to it, he was a typical freshwater striker, it's an international thing, my freshwater fishing mate still does it. The faintest tremble of a bite was met with a huge strike and no fish; after being persuaded to let the bite develop and just lift into the fish he brought his first sea fish in, a small black bream.. He was well pleased with himself and is now a convert to sea fishing.

WOW Goatee! Brilliant report, fabulous photos and a great mix of species! Well done that man! ????

A how-to on that rig would be good! ??
