Well, that’s another five days of Dorset fishing over with, it always goes by far too quickly. Unfortunately large fish were pretty much non existent, but we still managed to make up for it by targeting different species. There was a pool for biggest round, biggest flatfish and best specimen. A bass, a plaice and a dogfish won the prizes.
The weather was amazing, but this generally makes the fishing difficult, so light lines and small hooks were needed.
Night time was another story, with pouting around in plague proportions. Many went back out as conger baits, but nothing took the baits except one fish which came off after a few seconds.
On the last day we had our usual visit to Swanage Pier and even though it was low tide, there were plenty of fish to be caught including a handful of big garfish and whopper of a mackerel for Phil. Over the week we had 21 species, with one member catching all 21 species on his own. Species caught were as follows….
Tub gurnard
Grey gurnard
Bass
Tompot blenny
Shanny
Gilthead bream
Black bream
Black goby
Rock goby
Conger
Pouting
LSD
Plaice
Pollack
Whiting
Corkwing wrasse
Ballan wrasse
Garfish
Small eyed ray
Mackerel
Horse mackerel
