We are in July now but still no signs the big shoals are going to show haven’t seen any gars or scad either there’s huge whitebait shoals everywhere now lots of bass in the exe and for some unknown reason loads of gurnard but the macs aren’t about in any numbers few here and there wots going on anybody got any ideas ??‍♀️

Troj in Guernsey is saying the same - very few Macker about. He reckons it's overfishing by the big boys/boats. He also said there are loads of Baitfish off the Islands, but no Macker about to feed on them or drive them inshore like normal, so the Bass are staying offshore too, as they can gorge on the Baitfish.

When i Read "MAC's" Thought you'd been chasing @Mr Fish and co with some of the Devon Rubber ware!

But your Mackerel and most other top water fish shoals have been destroyed by those giant hoover trawlers and there won't be Mackerel for many years as there taking many years in shoals so nothing left to breed so they will end up endangered as will be genetically weak.

Mackeral are patchy as hell here! Never seen so much baitfish though,we were catching garfish in February, the season's all to cock! The bass here are offshore! Hardly had any or seen any caught off the shore.pods of dolphins are also breaking up the mackeral shoals.

the line caught boys were getting £10.50 per kg for medium mackeral recently so they must be scarce!!!!!

So speaking to my clients I’m building an extension for atm and the wife’s big into her open water swimming and apparently that lot are saying the water temp is a lot lower than it should be atm I’m wondering if this is haveing a adverse affect on the fishing I know my mate fished the Samalite sat and said it was desperately slow he only had one fish and got a third place finish there were 10 blanks unheard of in July some good anglers on that circuit let’s hope this run of hot weathers gonna warm the seas up and kick it off ????

Saw a sunfish lastnight, been catching the odd jumbo mackeral on bass gear,2lb mackeral are more fun than bass. If I really wanted mackeral I would float, spin or use sabbikis, heavier feathers aren't doing well here.

Ok so some of our club members just come back from a species hunt with bite adventurous out from Penzance they caught more megrim than mackerel WTF ?
Very patchy still, prices are still sky high so the commercials aren't getting many either. Nice to hear there's megrim about, caught two in the bay last year very unusual to see them inshore here!!!
