What do i target , Sole or Hounds?

I've watched a chap dragging in what he said was 'a big, big, ray' from Boscombe Pier to find that it was a sole not even 3lb.
As for unhooking them I've always compared it to trying to get a three year old kid into a car seat when the kid decides against it, arched back and refusal to cooperate.
Do you often try to force kids into carseats?

I wouldn't want to give advice about sole really ,seeing as only caught about a dozen ever, not something I target usually but size 2 hooks and small small lug baits, like little finger sized, have done me bites when I have tried...
Think the neatness of the bait comes into it more than with other species so keep em small seems to be standard from more experienced sole anglers than me.
I put a Swan shot on the hookleght about 4 inches above the hook to keep the bait on the deck and rod tips low so the bait stays down.
yeah I'm with you mate. , had 1 sole about half a oz and dropped fish , don't know what they were mind but seemed to of dropped 2. i may head down south tomorrow for some pollock, bass etc.

When my grandchildren were young, yes.
It was either that or they stayed home alone.
What would you do ? Cancel the trip, get your Nanny to do it, leave them at the roadside?

Small hooks plain weights rag Mac and vary your cast till you find some fish but I’d have a pop out for macs out should find gurnard maybe a plaice but not prolific from that mark then try hard for macs an scad at dusk the fish fresh baits into the knight if you have crab chance of hounds too bud

ok I'm with you. i may have a look at the cottages side. any specific tips you'd say ?
Had a few mackerel last week and put fresh out for undulates after dark but all we had was straps and a dog.
Bit of a stir and chance of bass close in, otherwise try worm at distance for possible plaice/sole but last count the spiders were still stripping the baits.
Or could try fish or squid strip for gurnard or bream. Again spiders are possible in daylight though.

See my ‘rays at Chesil’ thread for last Friday’s effort

When my younger son was toddler he would stick his legs out and go stiffer than Zziplex's finest if he didn't want to go in the car seat.
We just had to wait for that crucial micro second when he had to draw breath, then push him in and lock the straps.
