Most rod I believe are delivered to the retailer in a tide often several tubes taped together and the retailer takes them out of the tube in there bag and puts into stock and maybe one on display but an online retailer probably leaves them in the tubes and just re labels it to send out if sold on line. I've only ever bought rods and reels in a shop and have always taken them out of the packaging and checked them over myself with the shop keeper. If the distributor/ manufacturer is doing thier quality control properly there shouldn't be any need for a retailer to have to inspect it again unless the packaging is damaged.

I never mentioned sponsorship or discounting Russ. I said grass roots mate. Nothing to do with match fishing or these so called 'brand ambassador' BS schemes. Grass roots teaching and encouraging participation in and learing about angling.....and supporting the sport....
Not one of them do a jot. Nor does the Angling Trades Association from what I can see....pathetic really 👎
Just because you don't see it, & they don't shout about it online, doesn't mean that it doesn't happen,
but it will probably be happening within the frame work of another existing school/club/organisation due to protection laws & people having to be approved to work with kids.

Geting back the the original topic Whilst VMO acted well after the problem of the loose spigot arose, surely they at least should put the rods together before they send them out it's basic quality control.

I agree. Rods I've ordered from Japan have a label on stating that they've been inspected before posting. Veals used to do that also. It's very reassuring. Aside from that the rods are very well packaged, and the rods cost half the price to post. When I did break a tip, the Japanese retailer organised a replacement at cost. They really know how to treat their customers. We all know that manufacturing quality is poor these days, in all of life's products. Many companies appear not to give a damn, so an inspection by an online retailer gets a big thumbs up from me.

Yes although to be fair to Veals, they offer good service in the sense they’ll quickly remedy any problems.
That doesn’t help the initial disappointment when your prized new rod arrives in more sections than advertised, but I would imagine most damage occurs with the courier.
Mind you, a quick QC before it leaves the warehouse wouldn’t hurt either.

I think the only time I had a minor issue with Veals was when I ordered two spools of Amnesia and only one turned up.
I phoned up, the chap I spoke to checked the picking list, took my word for it and said another would be posted. It arrived in about two days.
You only ordered one spool.. the problem lies in the fact that you had forgotten what you had ordered.
