Tripod orientation?

I see alot if people don't sit the rod in the cups on the stand itself, sit the rod lower an angle to the ground. What would the benefit in that be?

I like to protect my rods so always have them in the cups (I hate gritty butts!), I also think that a big bite or pull round won’t pull the rods off the rest when the butts are in the cups due to more resistance and not just pulling the butts round.
I also keep the rod tips as low as the conditions allow and on a good day on the HW bank I will fish with the rod tips about 3’ off the ground as this for me is a really comfortable way of fishing and if it’s good enough for Alan Yates (who I have fished with) then it’s good enough for me!
