I have done a forum search and can't find much.

Is it mighty bright or are there alternatives?

Also looking to tape up the GT's and my Imax rods, x4 rods in all.

How many sections to come down the rod first one or two?

That leads on to how much will I need?

Never tip taped a rod before.

What is the forum knowledge and opinion on such task?

Mighty bright is as good as any and better than most. Put it on dozens of rods, rarely went further than tip to first guide, anything else, buy a light sabre. In actual fact Hughs` black tape is good, called mighty bright "eclipse." You can use 3M tape and others but they are thick.

I use the mighty bright tape, all different colours,I usually use two different colours on the same rod, it's a pain to put on but I find it helps with different light levels.

Never used tip tape. Bought a box of those isolight thingys from Lidl, and some Silicone tubing of the appropiate diameter for the isolight to slide into. Fixed a short length of the tubing to the rod tip with 50mm clear tape. Job done.

Can’t you just tie a bell on the end.??…😎
Definitely could, but definitely not going to.

Got Starlights, rig shark and mk IV tip lights but I think tip tape and a head torch is probably the tidiest solution.

I found tip tape and a headtorch set to low makes me concentrate on the rod tips. Bites off codling are too few to miss these days on my coast. I like MB spiralled between the last 2 intermediate guides and a just small rectangular piece of SOLAS trimmed to fit snugly on the tube of the tip guide (I find it too bright a reflector to have tips covered in it, but many seem to like loads of it, and worse slathered in resin👎which I think risks ruining the tip of anything but rock/ bargepole rods)

Change your rods to ones that already have luminous tips - simples.

Hugh's tip about running a bead of super glue along the edge of the end of the tape (its in the video) has proved to work well for me ... stops the edges lifting. I don't like going over them with finish personally as it makes changing it a bit of a major job.

I like the thick hex pattern tape that looks grey in daylight, don’t think I’ve ever used Mighty Bright but I know it’s highly rated.

It seems to come from various brands but the last one I had was Sakuma. Way overpriced but I grabbed it in a shop when I needed some.

I may be the odd one out with this but I’ve never been particularly keen on the spiral pattern, I prefer to watch a single solid bar of tip at night.

So what I do is cut the strip vertically so there’s just enough to wrap around the diameter of the tip section I’m covering.
Clean the section with white spirit or similar first and let it fully dry.

But then it’s much easier for me, being cack handed, to tightly wrap it and not get wrinkles or air bubbles.

Not the best pic as I’ve never done a close up but you get the idea…

The three sections covered in the foreground was one I’d just done.
Three because I had a total brain fart and initially covered the wrong bit 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
(Would usually just do two 🙄)

That's SOLAS tape. As ever, its each to their own 👍
