Surf Casting Reels

I tried the 7000 when they were released and thought they are fantastic reels and remember saying at the time that if I didn't already have tecnium mgs for carp fishing I would buy these in stead. Funny thing is I prefer multipliers for beach fish as I've always been a low reel multi user but I'm now struggling when it's cold to grip the spool due to arthritis and may have to go fixed spool if it gets any worse.

Is this big enough,£119.99 with voucher.I think the Daiwa 5000 is about the same size as the Shimano 14000.
The 35 version at AD is down to £90 just ordered 2

Looks to be a nice reel for the price.

UPDATE: super quick delivery...reels arrived the next day!

I've just spooled them up and I'm grateful they came with line reducers because I only need ~200m (hence why I was after the 7000 instead of the 8000). My initial thoughts are they're pretty nice! HOWEVER I like my knobs spherical so looking to change them which may be difficult because (I've just found out) Penn have their own shaft (L32mm, D5mm) which is kind of similar to the Daiwa L shaft (L34mm+2.5mm, D5mm) BUT no quite. The bearings are the same (8x5x2.5) so I may be able to hack something...

Speak to custom reel king.

Reels look good mate. I'm the opposite - I can't stand these spherical or ball shaped handles. If a reel has got a spherical handle, I wouldn't buy it.

I haven't spoken to him(?) but having a look at the website there doesn't seem to be any Penn related knobs, unless if he does custom orders in which case I suspect it'll be $$$.

My hopes are low, there's plenty of Daiwa and Shimano knobs on the market BUT nothing for Penn. Its shaft is similar to Daiwa L style and the handle-to-reel screw is similar to Shimano style. If I can find a cheap Daiwa L knob on Ali I can at least play around and figure out what's possible. Also it seems the Tidal XT are for UK/EU market only; surely the Americans go surf fishing?!?!

Same with the Penn Surfblaster - unavailable in the USA and you can't get parts for them there either.

What convinced you to get them in the first place?
The spec of the reels and then price if I’m honest and the added fact of the HT-100 sealing or whatever it’s called that Penn have on their reels. I’ve always been a Shimano fan when it comes to FS reels but these new Penn’s with the slow oscillation etc are super in my opinion.

Yeah I too was impressed by the sealing - I'll be using the reels on Friday for the first time and looking forward to seeing how the drag behaves.

Coincidentally VMO have a YouTube unboxing (and use) review and I think they say something like "...the Tidal XT is similar to a Shimano of twice the price..."

Yeah, I think the comparison is to the Power Aero model from memory

You'd think there would be a few handle alternatives/replacements available somewhere? The Slammers etc come with EVA bulbs....

I hope so! I'll keep looking...

For example, this Gomexus option exits BUT they point out it's not compatible with the LCEU models (Long Cast EU)

He may have something he knows that fits. It's basically a carp site. They bring up everything. Few sea angler do.
