Fancy a new SP lure rod and have been looking at the following.

1. PENN conflict elite 902m
2.Major Craft Tidrift 5G TD5-962ML

No local shops to have these in stock so I can't go and have a waggle of them.

Looking to use various SP and the odd shallow diving hard lure with a Vanford 4000

Any advice on either would be greatly appreciated.

My personal preference would be the Tidrift. It’s a nice regular/fast tip action that’s a little more forgiving in the cast compared to a fast actioned rod.
I have a few MC rods with the 10’ Tidrift being one.

I had a Tidrift, biggest mistake I made was getting rid of it
Weird isn't it, biggest mistake I ever made - 4 different occasions - was buying a Majorcraft rod! The Triplecross was the straw that broke me, never ceases to amaze me how some manufacturers suit some people and not others.

One that catches fish is good. (y)

The Ceanas and the 5G Tidrifts I've found superb value BUT like you say tackle choice is very personal

I have not tried the two you mention but i’m liking the Tailwalk Hi-tide SSD 86ML I got a few weeks ago.

Definitely not a 'tackle tart' and can't justify spending large sums of money on gear that may only get used a few times a year.
Last new (lure) rod I bought was an Abu Tormentor 9ft 20 - 60gm. Very pleased with it for the cost, and might buy another.
Many different lengths/casting weights available.
