I and a few friends Visted my fav surf beach a few days ago, Fulf and myself arrived about an hour after low water, Barry had been fishing for about half an hour and was one schoolie to the better when we arrived. We had arrived hopefully to avoid the worst of the weed which seemed to gather around low water on the last few times we fished. As it happens Barry had said the weed hadn't been to bad, the weed was with us through out the tide a pain rather than a session ender.
The weather was overcast misty with two showery spells. The surf was spot on several tables stretching out a 100-150 meters 3-4 ft high, giving the sea a good stirring, strangely though, with all this surf action the water was crystal clear. The wind was onshore right to left fifteen miles an hour gusting twenty, so you had to position your stand into it to avoid it blowing over Fresh lug and frozen razor was the order of the day, presented by various two hook flapper rigs anchored down by 3 and 4 oz breakaways.
Barry had his first fish on the first cast and me and Fulf managed to do the same with two 1/2 lb bass coming ashore on the same first cast Fishing was steady with a trickle of small bass throughout the tide. I had the mother of all bites 3 hours into the flood tide only to strike at fresh air lol.
There was a steadily increase in the weed, often breaking out the weight as the flood progressed. An hour before high water I had another big pull down and a lot of slack line, I reeled in like a bat out of feeling a weight and a few more pull downs only to end up pulling in my other trace and no fish . We planed to fish an hour of the back tide, but over high water the weed became real pain and as high tide approached we had a conflab and headed for the cars.
Final tally Barry 9 bass best 1 1/4 lb Fulf 6 bass best 3/4 lb though he did loos a better fish in the surf courtesy of weed jammed in the leader , myself 7 bass biggest 1/2 lb
Onwards and upwards gents and tight lines
