South West Minehead July/Aug

I’m being silly ?

Scroll down through this and you’ve got the gen on town beach/golf links, grenaleigh and white mark, which imo are the marks worth fishing at minehead itself.
Harbour wall and gasworks beach can also produce but depends how close to the pavement and how busy you want it to be! Ie whether you enjoy fishing in a crowd!

Best summer daytime marks imo are grenaleigh then white mark, obviously tide dependant.
Rays and hounds would be the main targets then.
The ankle breaker boulders are really not fun though, so depends how happy you are walking over those and fishing on them (can find the odd patch of sand to set up on near low).

Or you’ve got Porlock and Bossington nearby. This link gives a good run down of the marks. shout with any queries or @Si-fly knows the area well too.

A bit further up channel but only a few miles, you’ve got the reef marks such as Kilve, Lilstock, Donniford etc, I haven’t fished them all!

Meant to add, minehead town beach or Golf Links is good then for sole after dark and sometimes better bass if there’s a surf.
Don’t think I’d bother with the beach in daylight though, would be pretty rammed I think!

I gathered that.Didn't expect such a quick response and I'm grateful for the info you have posted.Did have a look on WSF but all the info on there was old hat.Is bait available to buy locally.
Dave.
Yep, there’s a tackle kiosk with a good stock of bait (usually including live worm and crab) at minehead harbour. They usually have a good steer on what is fishing as well.
It’s an outlet of West Coast Tackle at Watchet.
I THINK there might be a shop in minehead town centre too but only ever used the kiosk, it has everything (and sells coffees!)

Depends what fishing you want to do and how happy you are on those boulders - they’re bleddy horrible and dodgy but the best day time marks in minehead itself imo.
Although the beach is a nice easy sesh after dark if you’ve got time for any night fishing?

That link to Veals looks to be an interesting read when I get round to reading it.Thanks for that.(y)

Yep it’s a pretty decent run down and you can always join their forum to get an idea of local reports as well.

Might be able to meet up, depending on when you’re down and fishing times?

Might have to give those a miss, will have a recce when I get there.(y)
Big slimy pebbles/boulders, real ankle breakers if you slipped between them wrong. Not so bad once you get down towards low but not nice to move over them.
It’s not the end of the world, with care, but depends how happy you are scrambling over that sort of thing. Lots of people fish it though.

Minehead town beach is underrated. You've got a beach behind the lifeboat Station and the harbour arm. Easy fishing at blue anchor just down the road. Should be some hounds about, dogs rays congers and bass. Depends what your targets are really?

God I break into a cold sweat just driving past Blue Anchor and seeing them all crammed in there, my idea of a small part of hell! ???

But yes, there’s gasworks which is easy and I do like town beach or golf links, easy fishing and you’ll pick up quite a lot on small lugworm baits.
Even good ray sometimes if they’re targeted.

Ive never tried to fish it during the day in July or august though! ???

Always worth having a chat with Craig in the kiosk on the harbour or Steve at west coast both have good knowledge of the area and the fishing. Watchet harbour wall throws up some decent fish at times.

More going on in that area than I was expecting.Looks promising.(y)

Tbf always somewhere up there to fish no matter what the tides it just depends what you want to fish for and how comfortable you are on some of the bigger pebbles ??
