Lure fishing / spinning what is the difference?

I bought a new spin/lure, call it what you will, rod because the old spinning rod I had been using was seriously outdated. It is heavy, as is the reel so naturally a day out casting with it is tiring. However the new tackle while very much lighter is still spinning gear. I think all anglers will when buying a rod and reel comb have to take into account the size and power of the fish they may catch so for me the idea that lure rods are a type of rod which is ultra light for flicking light lures does not work for me. I may be going against the trend but having an ultra light rod that is struggling to subdue the fish that has been hooked seems not quite right to me.

Depends also if you want to keep a bass or play with it!

Only carp rod I ever found any use for spinning was an 11' 1 3/4 lb blank I bought and built up, unfortunately I broke a couple of inches off the tip and ruined the action. All the others just do not feel right although you can most definitely throw a heavier lure a long way. Preferred a Conoflex Gambit or a Zippy PTX Bass for what I call heavy spinning say up to 90 grms, try fishing one of those for a full tide

There's no difference it's just another adoption of an americanism. The tackle trade are good at re labelling things to create a bit of marketing buzz.

never thought there was difference tbh as said by few above lol ..
with regard to carp rods a lot of the older ones are decent for lure fishing (obviously nothing like an actual specialised lure rod just saying) because they were 1 3/4lbs and 2lbs back then ..
now most carp rods are 3lbs test plus ... no good for bassing but my go to for pollock hauling em up rocks .. little 30g lure rod would snap bringing 6lbs plus up a cliff

He catches aswell! Uses modern lures on old rod and reel. But then he knows when and where to fish

I use the same rod for bonito in FV using lures as I do for salmon in Scotland, basic 15 -45grm 9ft spinner. The guy in Portugal, (Grant) I built three of his rods for him and I know what they are, they aint pwetty lure rods. Best of my knowledge we do not have a freshwater bass in UK so why call the friggin` boney, spiky things sea bass.

Edited I stuck Portugal instead of Fuerteventura, never had a bonito from Portugal unless off the boat

I'm sure you could get a Jap version called a Tobyaki or something for £20 if you looked hard enough

These lures have been around for as long as I can remember and I am certain they will still winkle out many different species of fish ... so do I use a lure rod or a spinner?

It depends if you class a Toby as a lure or spinner

Toby lures are often mentioned as being similar to Dexter wedges, which are good on the end of a string of Sabikis instead of a weight. Blakdog do Dexter wedges up to 200gms, so I'm guessing a lure rod or spinning rod wouldn't be a lot of good with one of those. Out with the Beachcaster! ???

For my birthday I got a rapala x-rap
14 cm 43 gram lure in wahoo colours..
I definitely need a spinning rod for that sized lure and the only place I could think it might be useful is at a deep water venue like chesil and wobble it through mackerel Shoals to see if a big bass would attack it.
It's a bit on the large side for a lure rod I think
